    • A gas distribution system for supplying a gas mixture to a plasma process chamber is provided. A first valve arrangement is connected to upstream ends of a first gas line and a second gas line. A second valve arrangement is connected to downstream ends of the first gas line and the second gas line. A first gas distribution outlet line is connected between a gas supply and the first valve arrangement and a first chamber inlet line connected between the second valve arrangement and the plasma process chamber. A first evacuation line is connected to the first gas line at a location between the first valve arrangement and the second valve arrangement. A second evacuation line is connected to the second gas line at a location between the first valve arrangement and the second valve arrangement. The first evacuation line and second evacuation line are in fluid communication with a vacuum line. A controller is operable to actuate the first valve arrangement and second valve arrangement to selectively flow the gas mixture from the gas supply to the plasma process chamber through the first gas line while the second gas is selectively evacuated by the vacuum line; or to selectively flow the gas mixture from the gas supply to the plasma process chamber through the second gas line while the first gas line is selectively evacuated by the vacuum line.

    • System and method for monitoring the applications of the brakes, e.g. of an aircraft to determine brake condition and operate a brake maintenance programme or charge a brake system user. It is desirable to have accurate information for determining the condition and predicting the life of carbon-carbon brake discs. This is important for safety as well as commercial reasons. The number of landings of an aircraft is often used as a determinant for such as lifetime warranties for brake discs and recommended maintenance periods. However, at least for carbon disc brakes, this may not be entirely accurate. For example such brake discs also wear during taxiing. The system and method herein includes monitoring each actuation of the brakes and making a separate record of each actuation of the brakes in which there is relative movement of the facing friction surfaces that cause wear, and from that separate record determining brake usage. The monitoring may include measuring changes and processing the signals to distinguish between those which fall below and those which are above a threshold value. Herein there is also described, a method and apparatus for monitoring a braking system comprising sensing a plurality of braking parameters having values dependent upon wear in the system and different faults of the system, and identifying and recording wear and faults based on combinations of values of said parameters.

    • A pivot or circle type irrigation system has a single hydraulic cylinder upon each vehicle to provide motive force to that vehicle. Two hydraulic tubes extend the length of the system and each hydraulic tube is connected to one side of each cylinder without valves. The cylinder movement is blocked if the vehicle upon which it is mounted is detected to be ahead by an alignment system. Hydraulic fluid is pumped into one tube until an increase of pressure indicates that all of the cylinders are cockablock and then the tubes are reversed and hydraulic fluid is pumped into the other line until, again, a rise in pressure indicates that all of the cylinders are cockablock.

    • A plasma arc torch includes an annular baffle defining distinct faces A, B, C, and D. Faces A and C are opposite from each other, and faces B and D are opposite from each other. First passages for fluid flow extend between the faces A and C, and second passages extend between the faces B and D. The baffle is installable in an annular space between an inner wall and an outer wall, in either of two orientations. In a first orientation, the first passages are open to fluid flow and the second passages are closed by engagement of the inner and outer walls with the faces B and D, and in a second orientation, flipped over relative to the first orientation, the second passages are open to fluid flow and the first passages are closed by engagement of the inner and outer walls with the faces A and C.
