    • An adjustable intraluminal valvulotome comprises a hollow tubular member and a pair of substantially identical, opposed cutting blades provided at the distal end of the tubular member. Each of the cutting blades has a first cutting blade at its trailing edge and a second cutting blade at one side generally transverse to the first cutting blade. The outer faces of the cutting blades have a complex convex surface. The cutting blades are movable between an extended position and a retracted postion with respect to the distal end of the tubular member and between an open position in which the cutting blades are spaced apart from each other and a closed position in which said cutting blades are drawn tightly against each other, by the operation of a pair of spring wires respectively attached to the cutting blades and slidable within the tubular member. The distal end of the tubular member is provided with a receptacle for receiving the first cutting edges of the cutting blades in the retracted position. A coil spring can be provided within the tubular member, through which the spring wires pass, to facilitate movement of the cutting blades between their open and closed positions.

    • An adjustable intraluminal valvulotome including a hollow tubular member in which is slidably disposed a control wire. First and second spring wire elements respectively interconnect first and second cutting blades having first and second perpendicular cutting edges to one end of the control wire. There is a handle member proximate the other end of the control wire for controlling longitudinal movement of the control wire in and out of the tubular member. The handle member enables the first and second cutting blades to move from a first extended cutting position to a second retracted position. A receptacle at the distal end of the tubular member restrains the cutting blades in a fully retracted non-cutting position and prevents their engagement with the vein or valves. A method of using a valvulotome to rupture and render inoperative the valves is also disclosed.

    • A medical treatment system and method of treatment is described having an implant that can be positioned and deployed, then undeployed to allow repositioning of the implant. The system includes a self-expanding medical implant that longitudinally foreshortens upon radially expanding from a radially compacted state, a distal interface configured to attach the implant to a distal mount of a delivery device, and a proximal interface configured to attach the implant to a proximal mount of the delivery device. Moving the distal mount longitudinally away from the proximal mount applies a longitudinal tension to the implant causing the implant to expand longitudinally and contract radially, and moving the distal mount toward the proximal mount reduces a longitudinal tension in the implant allowing the implant to expand radially toward a fully expanded state.

    • An expandable vascular stent includes an m 3 n array of ovals formed in a cylinder, m being the number of columns of ovals in the circumferential direction and n being the number of rows of ovals in the axial direction, and a plurality of prongs extending inwardly from the outer ends of respective ovals in rows 1 and n of the m 3 n array, and being arranged in facing pairs extending from axially-aligned ovals. The cylinder is expandable from an initial diameter to a pre-determined final diameter, wherein an increase in the diameter of the stent results in a substantial decrease in the length of the stent. The tube and the prongs can be made of surgical stainless steel, the tube being expandable using an angioplasty balloon; or the tube and the prongs can be made of a memory metal and the tube is self-expanding.
