    • We describe a phase modulating spatial light modulator (SLM). The SLM comprises a substrate bearing multiple SLM pixels, each of the SLM pixels comprising a MEMS (micro electromechanical system) optical phase modulating structure. The MEMS optical phase modulating structure comprises: a pixel electrode; a spring support structure around a perimeter of the pixel electrode; and a mirror spring supported by the spring support structure. The mirror spring comprises a mirror support and a plurality of mirror spring arms each extending between the mirror support and the spring support structure, and a mirror mounted on the mirror support. Each mirror spring arm has a spiral or serpentine shape. A voltage applied to the pixel electrode flexes the mirror spring and causes the mirror to translate perpendicularly to the substrate substantially without tilting.

    • We describe a method of projecting a colour image on a screen holographically. The method includes: inputting colour image data including data for at least two colour planes of said image, a first, longer wavelength colour plane and a second, shorter wavelength colour plane; generating data for respective first and second holograms from said first and second colour planes, said first hologram having a greater resolution than said second hologram; and displaying said first and second holograms in turn on a common spatial light modulator (SLM) illuminated by light of respective said first and second wavelengths to project said colour image onto said screen; and wherein a scaling in resolution between said first and second holograms is dependent on scaling between said first and second wavelengths such that, when projected on said screen pixels of said image generated by said first and second holograms have substantially the same pitch.

    • A touch sensitive device, the device comprising: a touch sensor light source to project a plane of light above a surface: a camera directed to capture a touch sense image from a region including at least a portion of said plane of light, said touch sense image comprising light scattered from said plane of light by a plurality of said objects simultaneously approaching or touching said surface; a signal processor coupled to said camera, to process a said touch sense image from said camera to identify a lateral location of each of said objects; and an output object position output, to provide output object positions for said plurality of objects; and wherein said signal processor is further configured to: input a succession of said touch sense images; process each said touch sense image to identify a plurality of candidate object touch positions; and filter said candidate object touch positions from said successive touch sense images to link said candidate object touch positions to previously identified output object positions for said plurality of objects; and update said previously identified output object positions using said linked candidate object touch positions.

    • A holographic image projection system for projecting an image at an acute angle onto a surface includes: a spatial light modulator (SLM) to display a hologram; an illumination system to illuminate the displayed hologram; projection optics to project light from the illuminated displayed hologram onto the surface at an acute angle form the image; and a processor having an input to receive input image data for display and an output to provide hologram data for the SLM, wherein the processor is configured to: input image data and convert this to target image data; generate from the target image data hologram data for display as a hologram on the SLM to reproduce a target image; and wherein the target image is distorted to compensate for the projection of the hologram at an acute angle to form the image.
