    • A rodless power cylinder includes a tube having an oblong circular cross section bore and a slit extending along the longitudinal axis of the bore and penetrating the wall of the tube. The bore includes a slit-side inner surface on which the slit opens and a counter-slit-side inner surface which opposes the slit-side inner surface. The slit-side inner surface of the bore is formed as a flat plane or a curved plane having substantially no curvature. Further, recesses are formed on the slit side inner surface at both sides of the slit. The surfaces of the recesses are formed as curved planes having a curvature larger than the curvature of the slit-side inner surface. An inner seal band made of a flat, thin metal band is provided to seal the opening of the slit. The seal band contacts the surface of the recess at its transverse edges. Therefore, a good sealing capability is achieved by the contacts between the surfaces of the recesses and the edges of the seal band.

    • Regarding an independently driven type spindle in a spinning machine, when a yarn breakage is occurred in a spindle 10, a brake operating member 35 of the spindle 10 is moved toward a spindle shaft 13. During the movement of the brake operating member 35, control surfaces 49 of the brake operating member 35 cause the stop/restart switches 46 and 47 to be made OFF between the electric driving motor 20 and alternate current lines S and T, thereby causing the motor 20 to be rotated under its own momentum. Then, braking parts 34 of the brake operating member 35 is pressed to the outer peripheral surface of the spindle shaft 13, thereby executing a mechanical braking operation. After the withdrawal of an end of broken yarn, the brake operating member 35 is released, so that a force of the springs 41 causes the brake operating member 35 to be detached from the spindle shaft 13, thereby canceling the braking operation. The movement of the brake operating member 35 also causes the stop/restart switches 46 and 47 to be made ON, thereby restarting the drive motor 20.

    • According to the rodless power cylinder of the present invention, plug members are inserted in the bore of the cylinder barrel. A slit is provided on the cylinder barrel and extending in parallel to the axis of the cylinder barrel. A piston is disposed in the bore of the cylinder barrel and is movable along the slit. An external carriage which is connected with the piston by a yoke extending through the slit is provided. An inner seal band which closes the inner opening of the slit is disposed in the cylinder barrel along the slit. The ends of the inner seal band are clamped between the securing screws and the shank of the plug members, The securing screw extends through the slit from a fitting plate disposed on the outer wall of the cylinder barrel. The fitting plate is secured to the outer wall of the cylinder barrel by mounting bolts threaded into the plug members through the slit. Therefore, the inner seal band and the outer seal band can be secured without any machining of the cylinder barrel.

    • A machine tool chuck in which a wedge member is provided to cause radial displacement of workpiece clamping pawls for replacement. The replacement can be made with minimum variations in radial position at which the clamping pawls are relocated. Each clamping pawl and each slide block are in slidable engagement with a sloping wedge action portion of an axial slidable wedge bar in such a way that axial displacement of the wedge bar will force both the clamping pawl and the slide block to move radially independently of each other while maintaining the geometric relationship therebetween. For replacement of the clamping pawl, the wedge bar is moved backward to cause its wedge action portion to be disengaged from the clamping pawl whereby the clamping pawl can be slid radially outwardly for replacement.

    • An indexing apparatus for a rotary table has a support shaft rotatably supported by a base member in which indexed terminal positions of the rotary table is determined by abutment of a stopper member provided on the rotary table against positioning members provided on the base member. The indexing apparatus comprises a rack-pinion mechanism comprising a rack and a pinion fixed around the support shaft of the rotary table for rotating the same, a feed screw shaft rotatably supported by the base member and extending along the rack in a direction of the movement thereof, a breakable electric motor for driving the feed screw shaft, and a feed nut engaging the feed screw shaft. The rack and the feed nut are arranged so that either one of them has integral portions disposed at both sides of the other with spaces left on both the sides in the direction of the movement of the rack. Annular springs are disposed in each space. As the rotary indexing operation approaches the terminal position, the spring is elastically deformed in the direction of the movement of the rack so that shocks due to the abutting are prevented. Immediately before the indexed terminal positions, the speed of the motor is reduced and then the motor is braked.

    • A chuck jaw changer for a machine tool has a jaw changing arm which is swingable about a vertical rotating shaft. The two ends of the arm have elongated magazine holders extending transversely to the length of the arm. The magazine holder has a guide groove in which an elongated jaw magazine is fitted slidably along the length of the holder. The magazine is formed with a plurality of jaw storage grooves spaced apart from each other and chuck jaws are detachably accommodated in the storage grooves, respectively. When the jaw changing arm is indexed to position the magazine holder into registry with the jaw mounting groove of the chuck, one of the jaw storage grooves of the magazine is brought into alignment with the jaw mounting groove so that a jaw changing device operates to shift the jaw between the storage groove and the jaw mounting groove for changing the jaw. The other jaw storage grooves can be brought into alignment with the jaw mounting groove one by one by shifting the magazine along the magazine holder by means of a traversing device.
