    • A process for bobbin replacement on a flyer frame provided with a drafting frame, flyers, spindles and a bobbin rail, in which, while the flyer frame is running, a sliver end for each sliver supplied by the drafting frame is placed upon an empty bobbin sleeve. Initially only the flyers and the spindles of the flyer are driven. The flyers and the spindles are either immediately advanced in a forward direction or are initially driven backwards and after the lapse of a predetermined time period, brought to standstill and then driven forwardly, whereby the standstill of the flyers and the spindles coincide in time or are offset in time. After the start of the forward drive of the flyers and the spindles, the time-delayed drafting frame is set into operation.

    • A spinning machine has an electric motor for rotating a bobbin-supporting spindle to build a package of yarn thereon and a funnel for guiding yarn onto the spindle. The spindle is rotatingly driven by an electric motor and the electric motors of the spindle and the funnel are commonly connected to a frequency control means which is, in turn, connected to an electrical power supply means. The torque of the funnel electric motor is a function of a characteristic of the funnel in accordance with the relationship that the funnel is rotated by its electric motor at a lower rate relative to the contemporaneous rate of rotation of the spindle. The apparatus can include a switch assembly selectively movable between leads for selectively connecting the funnel electric motor to the frequency control apparatus to operate the motor or to the electrical power supply means to brake the motor.

    • A yarn twisting and winding apparatus is disclosed which is adapted to produce a yarn ball, and which includes a yarn support spindle (12) and surrounding flyer (19). A yarn delivery roll (4) is mounted coaxially about the central axis, and so that the yarn is adapted to advance to the flyer, around the yarn delivery roll, back to the flyer, and then to the yarn support spindle to form a yarn ball.

    • This spinning machine weighs about 10 lbs. and is of about the size of a one foot cube. The reel on which the spun yarn is to be stored is contained within a large horizontal tube. The yarn is fed through a hole in the wall of the tube from a groove on the outer surface. The reel is rotated by running on the inner surface of the tube which is driven by, for instance, a sewing machine motor. By control of dimensions or by braking a relative speed is imposed between the reel and the tube and is the speed for reeling yarn. The yarn is fed to the groove from two small tubes, one stationary and the other rotating with the large tube. Both are coaxial with the large tube. Locks or sliver to be spun are presented to a surface with saw-tooth corrugations alternating with slots, and is fed to the stationary small tube.

    • Disclosed is a spooling apparatus that can be threaded on the fly to anchor, controllably twist and wind filament onto a receiving spool. A receiving spool is non-rotatably mounted on a spool shaft for axial reciprocation. A lead-in pulley, whose rotational axis is perpendicular to the receiving spool axis, is spaced axially outboard with respect to the receiving spool. A flier is mounted to rotate concentrically about the receiving spool and presents a pick-up head adapted to engage the feed run of the filament as it passes between the lead-in pulley and an orienting pulley located in proximity to the inboard end of the receiving spool. The orienting pulley is canted such that the tailing run of the filament cannot be engaged by the pick-up head as it rotates with the flier although the canting of the orienting pulley disposes the feed run such that it will be engaged by the rotating pick-up head when the spool reaches a predetermined position along its range of axial reciprocation. The feed run extends through a cutting mechanism which severs the tailing run therefrom shortly after the pick-up head engages the feed run. Means are provided to grip the severed end of the feed run after severance and until such time as it becomes anchored thereto by successive overwraps. Means are also provided to assure that the twist imparted to the filament by rotation of the flier about the receiving spool will be transmitted across the pick-up head with the filament as it is wound onto the spool.
