Lubricating oil from the annulus is pumped into and through the second passageway and through the joint between the second and third passageway, and through the third passageway into the void in the cover. Thereafter the oil passes through the fourth passageway between the void in the cover and the circumferential recess in the cover and lubricating the bearing mounted adjacent the recess in the cover/housing.

    • A steerable wheel motor assembly for moving construction lifts and scaffold equipment is disclosed and claimed which includes a spindle bracket configured to be pivotably mounted at an upper end to a steering mechanism for rotation about a vertical axis. The output shaft is supported by a first set of bearings and a second set of bearings with the second set of bearings including a speed and direction sensor integral therewith for detecting the speed and direction of rotation of the output shaft. The sensor outputs to a control system which controls the speed and direction of the equipment. A thrust washer is used to position the output sun gear accurately reducing manufacturing and maintenance costs of the assembly. Use of the thrust washer reduces the cost of machining the output shaft to a high tolerance.

    • An epicyclic steering differential for use with a vehicle that is driven by tracks provides steering control and differential action to the vehicle by way of a set of differential cluster gears disposed about the pitch circle of the control gears with which the cluster set mates, engaging concurrently each of two adjacent cluster gears of the set, and driving two oppositely disposed drive gears that ultimately transmit power to the tracks. Each cluster gear has a pitch diameter equal in size to that of the control gears. The clusters are arrayed about the control gears so that the pitch diameter of adjacent clusters are mutually tangent and tangent also with the control gear pitch circle. In this way cluster gear transmits power at two points of meshing contact.

    • A disengage mechanism for a gear drive including rotatable drive and driven members with one of the members having first splines. A drive actuator having second splines and being connected to rotate with one of the members and axially movable with respect thereto between first and second positions. In the first position the first and second splines are engaged and the drive and driven members are connected to rotate together and in the second position the splines are disengaged and the drive and driven members are disconnected. First means are provided for moving the drive actuator to the first position and second means move the actuator to the second position. The first means include a spring which constantly urges the drive actuator to the first position and the second means comprises a rotatable cam member which positively engages the drive actuator to move it to the second position. Means are provided for locking the cam member to the housing of the disengage mechanism and indicia are provided so that an operator of the device will know whether the cam member is either in its first position or its second position. Additionally, the cam member is provided with a detent within which a cam follower resides in the first position of the cam member which prevents accidental movement of the drive actuator from its first position.
