    • Apparatus for measuring a characteristic of a body of material having first and second substantially parallel coaxial lines with distal extremities in relatively close proximity to each other and adapted to be disposed in close proximity to the body of material. A transmitter is coupled to the first coaxial line for introducing electrical energy in the high frequency to a microwave range into the first coaxial line to cause an electromagnetic field to be established at the distal extremity of the first coaxial line and to extend into the body of material. A receiver is coupled to the second coaxial line for detecting any of the electromagnetic field coupled into it from the first coaxial line. A measurement device is coupled to the receiver means for ascertaining when any change occurs in the coupling of the electromagnetic field from the first coaxial line to the second coaxial line to determine said characteristic of the body of material.

    • Flat structural components such as sheetrock panels are dried sequentially by two different drying methods and devices. The first drying is performed as a convection drying, whereby surface layers of the panels are dried. The second drying is performed by a high frequency drying, whereby a still moist central core layer is dried down to a desired remainder moisture content. During the second drying by a high frequency generator, the moisture is driven out by diffusion, whereby any over-drying of outer surface layers is reversed again so that any over-drying, or rather damages that may be caused by dehydration of the gypsum in the sheetrock panels is repaired again since the outwardly diffusion moisture enables the gypsum to cure and set again.

    • A method is disclosed of dehydrating a thin water based ceramic slurry coating on a foam pattern assembly having hidden internal surfaces. The method comprises sequentially subjecting the coated assembly to a first warm air flow at a sufficient temperature and time to dehydrate and remove 60-80% of the water of the coating, and secondly subjecting the dehydrated coating assembly to low level microwave energy to substantially remove the remainder of the water in all of the coating, the dehydrated coating being devoid of bubbles or cracking.The coating is made by use of a slurry comprising a thixotropic silica water suspension with the silica comprising only 40-50% of the slurry; the slurry also may include a small portion of clay and in some cases an acrylic or epoxy glue additive. The pattern assembly or cluster is comprised of a plurality of molding patterns integrally carried by a gating system and common sprue, the patterns being at least four in number and radiating from the common sprue. The patterns may be of a complex nature having tunnels or internal chambers not readily exposed, such as are present in an automotive manifold or head casting pattern.

    • Apparatus for contact drying or cooling of printed sheets in or adjacent to a screen printing machine has a rotor which is driven to rotate about a horizontal axis and carries a set of radially outwardly extending vane-like flat suction boxes each having a plate-like foraminous supporting member to which one or more objects to be dried and/or cooled are attracted by suction during travel of the respective box along a portion of one orbit or during one or more full orbits about the axis of the rotor. The suction boxes are connected to a source of compressed air when the objects on their supporting members reach the ejecting station. The rotor can carry a box-shaped nozzle with orifices oriented to direct jets of compressed air against the objects on the adjacent supporting members. Objects can be supplied by hand or by a conveyor and the treated objects gather in a receptacle or are deposited on a take-off conveyor.
