    • A mobile toy is described. The mobile toy includes a wheel assembly having a hubcap for removably engaging a wheel of the wheel assembly. The mobile toy may also include a transmitter having a charging pad for charging of a radio-controlled embodiment of the toy. The transmitter comprises an indicator showing certain states of the toy as well as a storage compartment for housing items associated with the toy. Additional embodiments include an assembly for retaining the toy on the charging pad during charging of the toy. A kit for storing the components of the radio-controlled embodiment of the toy is also described.

    • A high speed electric toy vehicle having a high current rating electric motor is provided with a fail-safe mechanism which would promptly operate to cut off motor power supply before the battery is burnt or the vehicle housing is melted as a result of over-current developed across an electric motor due to locking of rotary shaft under operating conditions. The fail-safe mechanism operates by detecting the presence or absence of motor motion as indicated by a motion tag which are attached to a part of the vehicle which always moves in response to movement of the motor shaft. The mechanism will cut off supply to the motor when no motion has been detected for a pre-determined time period.

    • A method for reducing the amount of power dissipated in the internal resistance of a battery supplying current to a load through a circuit that switches the battery on and off at a known switching rate and duty ratio to result in ON periods during which the battery is coupled to the load and OFF periods during which the battery is not coupled to the load, includes the step of providing a bank of capacitors connected across the battery. The bank of capacitors has at least one capacitor, a combined equivalent series resistance less than the internal resistance of the battery, and a combined capacitance such that the product of the combined capacitance expressed in microfarads and the switching rate expressed in Hertz is at least 4.times.10.sup.6. The method proceeds by storing energy from the battery in the bank of capacitors during the OFF periods for contribution to the load during the ON periods. In line with the above method, a control system for a radio controlled (R/C) model includes a speed controller with the bank of capacitors having the attributes described above connected across the battery terminals.

    • A radio-control toy vehicle is provided with six nonsteerable wheels, three on each lateral side of the vehicle. At least the center wheel on each lateral side is drivingly coupled with a separate, reversible motor. The vehicle is steered by controlling the operation and direction of each motor. The wheels are arranged and the vehicle statically balanced such that the vehicle is supported by the center pair of wheels and one of the two remaining front and rear pairs of wheels, preferably the rear pair of wheels, when the vehicle is stationary on a level, horizontal surface. The vehicle is dynamically balanced so that when the wheels of the middle pair are driven in opposite linear directions, the vehicle spins rapidly about a vertical axis located directed between the middle pair of wheels and further pitches automatically slightly forwardly around the middle pair of wheels to lower the front end of the vehicle while raising the rear end and rear pair of ground-contacting wheels from the ground, so that the vehicle is supported only on the center pair of wheels.
