摘要： The invention relates to a device for the packet-based access of classical ISDN/PSTN subscribers to a switching system. The convergence of packet-based networks and TDM networks leads to a situation where classical analogous and ISDN subscribers and private branch exchanges have to be accessed via packet-based transmission methods. This problem is solved by the present invention by integrating the devices of a subscriber network that according to the state of the art are located outside the switching systems and that provide the main functions such as addressing, message routing for signaling messages and TDM interface for local branch exchange into the periphery of the switching system. The functionality of the interface that focuses on the subscriber-side is thus also integrated into the periphery of the switching system. At the same time, the approach to the subscriber network and the mode of using it remain the same for the internal devices (kernel) of the switching system.

摘要： An Internet Access server includes a caller-ID map. The caller-ID map stores a list of caller-IDs associated with the ISP with corresponding user identification and password. Upon receiving a request for a connection, the ISP extracts the caller-ID included in the request to connect, finds the corresponding user identification and password stored in the caller-ID map and retrieves the number of new messages in the caller's mailbox. If there are no new messages, an audible ringing tone is returned to the caller allowing the caller to terminate the request for connection.

摘要： A system and method for the efficient utilization of core telecommunications resources (including both switching and transport resources) during a datacom session over a connection-oriented telecommunications system is described. First, the telecommunications resources along a connection path are partitioned into two or more segments. One or more pause sensors placed along the connection path detect periods of inactivity in an connection. Whenever such a period of inactivity is detected, the pause sensor selectively causes the release of core telecommunications resources for reallocation to active applications, typically by deactivating one or more segments. When wake-up sensors detect renewed activity over the connection, then the dormant connection is reactivated by reallocating core physical resources. The dynamic connection technique of the present invention can be used both with analog (inband) signaling systems (e.g., Plain Old Telephone Service) as well as with digital signaling systems (e.g., Integrated Services Digital Network). The deactivation and reactivation of core telecommunications resources can be performed using various priority schemes.
