    • A method is described for manufacturing a rigid double wall tank from a rigid single wall cylindrical inner tank, in which a substantially rigid sheath is formed over a male mold which has a configuration generally similar to that of the inner tank and provides for molding of projections on the inner surface of such cylindrical sheath portion. The cylindrical sheath portion is then removed from the mold and introduced over the inner tank with the projections extending from the cylindrical inner surface of the sheath to the outer surface of the inner tank, and sheath end portions are applied to the axial extremities of that cylindrical sheath portion, forming a complete sheath enclosing the inner tank.

    • A safety device for use in tanks for liquids, especially in large-capacity tanks for hydrocarbons or other liquids capable of polluting the environment, for indicating a leakage and/or averting its consequences. A separating bottom provides a gastight seal in a cross section of the tank in the vicinity of the bottom, said separating bottom in conjunction with the bottom of the tank forming a gas-filled space which is free from any liquid. The gas pressure is measurable and/or controllable approximately corresponding to the respective hydrostatic pressure of the liquid inside the tank. Means are provided to actuate an alarm in case of a leak.

    • The self-sealing system disclosed herein is particularly adapted for storing and dispensing a liquid composition, such as a liquid fuel. The fuel is stored in one or more containers which are connected by a conduit to a use point, such as an engine. The containers and conduit are enclosed by a jacket which is spaced from these components. The jacket space is divided into gas-tight sections, with each section being filled with a gas under pressure. Pressure-actuated valves are installed in the conduit at several positions between the containers and the use point. At least one valve is in direct communication with each gas tight section. In normal operation, the valve is held in open position. If the jacket, the containers, or the conduit are ruptured at any point, an immediate pressure drop will occur in the affected section. The pressure drop will actuate the nearest valve and close the valve to stop the flow of fuel at that point.
