    • A pressure proof reaction vessel and the method of making and operating such a vessel wherein the vessel has a thin inner wall whose primary function is to conduct heat and a thick outer wall whose primary function is to contain the pressure with said inner wall being supported by the said outer wall using closely-spaced supports between the two walls. Heat transfer fluid flows in channels formed by the two walls. A novel method of fastening together the inner and outer walls of such a vessel using fastening means associated with a hole passing through the outer wall and that do not introduce surface disruption of the inside surface of the inner wall, is disclosed. This fastening means also allows for a very economical fabrication method whereby the inner wall and the supports are formed out of one piece of material. The vessel is particularly useful for the polymerization of vinyl chloride in large reaction vessels greater than 10,000 gallons in size.

    • A chemical bath apparatus is disclosed in which an open topped beaker having a heater mounted to the exterior wall thereof is supported in an open topped surrounding housing or shell by a support assembly, the beaker being in spaced relation to the shell. The support assembly includes a sleeve mounted in sealed relation around the heater so as to isolate the same from corrosive fumes and a resilient pad extending over a substantial area of the bottom wall of the beaker for support of substantially the entire weight of the beaker and chemical substance through the bottom wall. Vent openings for convection cooling between the shell and sleeve are also provided.

    • A storage system with 100% secondary containment includes a rigid outer vessel, a flexible cell inner vessel and a spacer layer therebetween. The region between the outer and inner vessels is monitored for leakage through either the rigid outer vessel or the flexible inner vessel. A number of expandable positioning rings keep the inner vessel substantially inflated regardless of the amount of fluid within the inner vessel. Outlet openings are formed in the outer and inner vessels to permit the passage of fluid into and out of the inner vessel. To retrofit a rigid vessel in use, the vessel is emptied, a manhole opening is cut, the vessel is inspected and conditioned as necessary, and the inside surface is covered with a coating layer. A spacer layer is mounted to the coating layer to cover the inside surface of the outer vessel. Fluid detectors and a suction tube are mounted within channels formed in the spacer layer. The flexible inner vessel is placed into position within the rigid vessel and is inflated. Openings in the inner and outer vessels are secured to one another. Expandable positioning rings are mounted within the inner vessel to keep it in an inflated condition to reduce stress on the inner vessel during use.

    • A tanker for the storage and transport of liquified gas at low temperatures which includes a plurality of vessels arranged in an insulated hold in a vertical orientation and in an optimum space utilization pattern. The vessels have a cylindrical or prismatic configuration and a diameter-height ratio of about 1:2 to 1:5 and preferably of from 1:2.5 to 1:3.5. The vessels are arranged in spaced relationship and are interconnected exclusively at their upper and lower ends into one pack extending over the full width of the hold.     • In a double shell sterilizer vessel of the type having spaced-apart inner and outer shells, the improvement of an eccentric relationship between the inner and outer shells with the bottom walls of each shell in contact with each other. The eccentric double shell vessel of this invention can be: (1) pit-mounted in the floors of existing buildings with the sterilizing chamber floor level with the building floor (previous double shell vessels often could not be pit-mounted in existing buildings), and (2) floor-mounted and used with a small ramp (rather than a hydraulic lift) for sterilizer carts.
