    • A drum type washing apparatus and a method of processing the wash using the drum type washing apparatus wherein they have a characterizing feature which consists in that the peripheral wall of a rotary drum made of a perforated plate is configured in the form of a wall having a single corrugated portion or a plurality of corrugated portions which do not intersect the direction of centrifugal force generated by rotation of the rotary drum at right angles. Further, they have other characterizing features which consist in that the apparatus is provided with a liquid injecting nozzle and/or a gas blowing nozzle and/or a hot air blowing nozzle for allowing liquid and/or gas and/or hot air to be injected and/or blown into the interior of the rotary drum whereby a period of time required for performing steps of washing, dewatering and drying the wash in the rotary drum can be shortened. Moreover, they have another characterizing feature which consists in that the rotary drum is rotated and air is blown into the interior of the rotary drum while a door is kept opened so that the wash can be discharged from the rotary drum at a high efficiency under the influence of force generated by flowing of the air.

    • A knock suppressing apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes an amplifier that amplifies the output signal of a knock sensor for sensing engine vibrations. A vibration level signal and a threshold signal are generated based on the amplifier output signals, and knocking is detected by comparing the vibration level signal and the threshold signal. The gain of the amplifier is varied in accordance with an operating condition indicative of the noise level of the engine so as to maintain the vibration level signal and the threshold signal within prescribed ranges suitable for knock determination. In one form of the invention, when the amplifier gain is varied, the threshold signal is also varied at substantially the same time and by substantially the same percentage as the amplifier gain.

    • An ignition timing control apparatus for an internal combustion engine capable of using as a fuel a regular (low-octane) gasoline, a premium (high-octane) gasoline, or a mixture of both type of gasolines. The engine produces knocks when the ignition timing is advanced beyond a reference ignition timing determined as a function of the type of gasoline being used. This advance ignition timing control apparatus detects the knocks, and provides as an output therefrom a signal according to the occurrence rate of the knocks which essentially indicates the type of gasoline in use. By means of this signal, this ignition timing control apparatus continuously displaces the reference ignition timing in the direction of retard angle by using a proportion factor calculator and an interpolator. At the same time, the displaced reference ignition timing is corrected by the detected knock signals on a real time basis. The combined ignition timing signal serves to energize an ignition coil to suppress the occurrence of knocks. This operation will continue until no knocks occur.

    • An ignition timing correcting system for generating a reference signal at a reference angular position of a rotating internal combustion engine, and having an ignition signal leading it by a constant phase. In response to a control signal from a movable tap on a potentiometer, the ignition signal is retarded in phase to form a retarded ignition signal. The phase comparison of the two signals produces an advance or a retardation signal formed of a pulse train having a pulse width corresponding to the phase difference there-between. During the idling of the engine, the correcting signal drives an electric reversible motor in either a forward or reverse direction so as to move the tap on the potentiometer to adjust the control signal after the correcting signal has been converted to a driving pulse having a longer pulse width when correcting in a direction to correct an advance of said signal than the pulse width when correcting in a direction to correct a retardation of said signal with respect to the phase difference.
