    • An apparatus is disclosed for filling the annular space between radially spaced coaxial tubes constituting a double walled pipe. The pipe may be of extruded plastic and comprises inner and outer coaxial tubes with bracing and spacing means therebetween. The pipe at one of its ends is held against and sealed at its inner and outer end surfaces to a filling head and at its other end is held by a back-up plate engaging the inner one of the tubes, so that the space between the tubes is in communication with atmosphere. Foamed grout is initially introduced to the annular space, forming a reservoir, by gravity so as not to destroy its foamed character and then is forced under relatively low pressure through the annular space lengthwise of the pipe. Gate valve means are provided at the entrance end to initiate and terminate the flow of grout and overflow receptacles are provided at each end of the pipe to collect surplus grout which falls out when the pipe is separated from the filling head and back-up plate. This excess grout is then recirculated to the reservoir. After filling, the pipe is stored in racks for curing of the grout and is then ready for shipment.

    • Device of the invention comprises a limit switch arrangement for positively controlling the upward travel of the lift ram of a crane hoist. The arrangement includes a pivotally mounted sensing arm extending into the path of the ram and connected by means of a cable with the counterweighted actuating arm of the limit switch in the electrical circuit powering the ram-lifting mechanism of the crane hoist. A pivotally mounted elongated counterweight is connected with the intermediate portion of the cable by means of a fitting through which the cable is threaded. The counterweight normally functions to maintain the sensing arm in initial resting position and the actuating arm of the limit switch in position keeping the limit switch closed and current flowing to the ram-lifting mechanism. Means are provided on the cable between the counterweight and the actuating arm to limit movement of the cable through the fitting. In operation, lifting of the sensing arm by the top of the ram as it rises causes lifting of the counterweight and removal of cable-tension from the counterweighted actuating arm so that it may rotate to position causing the limit switch to open and interrupt flow of current to the ram raising mechanism.

    • This application discloses a method of making a multi-webbed steel panel. It discloses the preparation of a starting sandwich comprising top and bottom plates and a plurality of web bars therebetween. The web bars are coated on both sides with a weldstop material except for stripes along opposite edges on opposite sides thereof. The assembled sandwich is fixed in position by means of edge bars and end bars, all of which are welded to the top and bottom plates to completely enclose the sandwich and to prevent shifting during rolling. This sandwich is then hot rolled in a series of passes to produce a reduction of at least 25:1 and even up to 75:1 to produce a long length of strip which is then sheared to length and the panel opened up by conventional means. Details of the stop-weld material and the manner of applying it are disclosed as well as rolling considerations involved.

    • Method for preventing early damage to the refractory lining at critical wear areas in a metallurgical furnace, such as an electric arc furnace and the like, including laying-up the critical wear areas of the refractory lining with standard refractory shapes encased in metal. The metal cases extend a distance beyond the hot faces of the refractory shapes to form box-like configurations which act as receptacles and anchors to retain pulverulent refractory material which is subsequently sprayed over the hot faces of the refractory shapes prior to initial start-up of the furnace. The pulverunt sprayed refractory material insulates and protects the hot faces of the refractory shapes from a rapid rate of increase in temperature which occurs during initial melt down and heat up at the beginning of a campaign.
