    • An apparatus adapted for the mounting and wiring of printed circuit boards includes front and rear supports which together define paired slots into which the circuit boards are receivable and thus transversely mountable relative thereto so as to maintain the boards in a substantially parallel, spaced apart relationship to one another. The boards can be securely locked in the mounted positions by a resilient ring or like structures which seats in a circumferential slot defined in the front and rear supports. An end bell housing is also disclosed whereby various electrical components can be assembled with the circuit boards by virtue of the locking engagement established with the rear support when the bell housing is rotated (e.g. as in a 1/4 turn) relative the rear support.

    • A novel zero insertion (and removal) force multi-pin coaxial connector for providing connections via controlled impedance paths is formed using a conductive elastomer as a frame (8) which forms the shield of a plurality of coaxial connectors and a plurality of circular openings formed in the conductive elastomer frame, each said opening corresponding to a single coaxial connection. An annular insulating ring (5), which forms the dielectric of an associated one of the coaxial connectors, is located in each annular opening of the conductive elastomer frame and an elastomer through-conductive member (6) which forms the center conductor of its associated coaxial connector is located within the circular opening of each insulating ring. In this manner, the conductive elastomer frame forms the shield of a plurality of coaxial connectors. A connector board for use with a plurality of coaxial cables is designed such that it will properly mate with the conductive elastomer frame and conductive elastomer through-conductive members, thus connecting the plurality of coaxial cables to one side of their associated coaxial connectors within the conductive elastomer frame. The connector board contains a plurality of conductive paths which are formed so as to properly abut the conductive elastomer frame and the elastomer through-conductive members of the coaxial connector. In this manner, each coaxial cable is connected through the zero insertion force multi-pin connector to their associated conductive paths on the printed circuit board. Alternatively, the multi-pin connector is used to connect two printed circuit boards.

    • A PMC (PCI Mezzanine Card) is disclosed which complies with the IEEE 1386 form factor specification and incorporates a PCMCIA card connector so that readily available PCMCIA cards can be used with a PMC. By removing approximately one-half of the usual PMC printed circuit board, space is created in which to mount the PCMCIA connector so that it is contained within the allowed component envelope above and below the surface of the PMC circuit board (4). The PCMCIA connector (10) is mounted by its leads to a tab (9) extending from circuit board (4). Side rails (15) having an s-shaped bend (18) extend from the circuit board (4) and provide mounting support for the bezel supports (2) thereby meeting the overall size requirements for PMC cards under the IEEE 1386 standard. The design of this invention also permits securing PCMCIA cards in the PCMCIA connector with set screws (21) that may be used to push in on extensions (13).

    • A printed circuit board retention system for supporting printed circuit boards in a computer chassis consists of a mother board located in the computer chassis and having a mother board connector mounted to it for connecting to a daughter card. The mother board connector has attachment points molded into it for optionally fastening a base support member. A daughter card including an edge card connection along the bottom edge for mating with the mother board connector such that the daughter card is positioned substantially at right angles to the mother board. A separate base support member may be fastened to the mother board by attachment points that mechanically mate with the attachment points on the mother board connector. The base support member has upwardly extending arms with clips on the ends. A partial frame element has downwardly extending arms with clips at the end that mate with the clips on the base support member arms. The base support member and the partial frame element surround the daughter card and provide mechanical support for it in the x,y and z axis. If such support is not needed, the connector is not burdened with the cost of the retention system.
