    • An Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) communications terminal apparatus is provided. The ISDN communications terminal apparatus includes a reset and clock signal unit for providing a reset signal and a clock signal needed by a communications service controller; a memory unit for storing a start program and an operating program of the communications terminal apparatus and user data; an input/output unit for receiving needed information from a user and providing needed information to the user; a transformer for matching a signal of ISDN lines or a network termination apparatus; and a communications service control unit which internally has a Reduced Instruction Set Computer (RISC) microprocessor, and is connected to the reset and clock signal unit, the memory unit, the input/output unit, and the transformer to process the communications protocol of each unit. Using a communications service controller having essential functions, the ISDN communications terminal apparatus reduces the number of components to the minimum such that the design of the apparatus is easy, the structure of the apparatus is simple, the price of the apparatus is low, and the size of the apparatus is small.

    • An arrangement is provided for digital transmission of information via lines between a line termination (1) of a telecommunication network and subscribers (Tln) connected to the line termination. At least one terminal of a subscriber (Tln) is connected to a network termination (2) via an electric line (L3). The network termination (2) is connected to the line termination (1) via a line (L2) having metallic conductors. The line termination (1) has a voltage source (SV) for supplying power to itself and to the network termination (2) and the subscriber (Tln) terminals. For increased reliability during operation, two separate power supply units (SVE1, SVE2) are arranged in the network termination (2). One of the two separate power supply units (SVE1, SVE2) powers active components of the network termination (2) and the other of the two separate power supply units (SVE1, SVE2) powers the subscriber (Tln) terminals. The two separate power supply units (SVE1, SVE2) are connected to the voltage source (SV) of the line termination (1) via separate lines (A1, A2).

    • A network termination device which will operate correctly even if its connection to a central office has reverse polarity. A network termination device at customer premises is connected to a line termination device located at a central office via a two-wire subscriber loop. If this connection was made with reverse polarity, the supply voltage provided by the line termination device would oscillate at specific intervals, alternating between normal polarity and reverse polarity. In such a case, a polarity switch controller in the network termination device directs its local polarity reversing switch to alternate the polarity at predetermined intervals longer than the cycle time of the above oscillation. This produces such a situation where a reverse supply voltage is present and the polarity reversing switch is in reverse mode, resulting in correct polarity as a whole. Under this condition, frame synchronization can be achieved between the peer devices, and a circuit termination unit thus asserts a synchronization indication signal. Upon receipt of this signal, the polarity switch controller commands the polarity reversing switch to stop changing and hold the current polarity. Eventually, a normal connection path is restored between the two devices, despite of the reversed subscriber loop wiring.
