    • A cam assembly may be constructed with cylinder plug perforated by a centrally positioned keyway, and having an exposed circumferential surface surrounding the keyway rotatably fitted within a centrally positioned keyhole of a housing, and rotated within the centrally positioned keyhole in response to rotational force applied by a key conformingly corresponding to the cylinder plug through an arc. A cam mounted either coaxially with the cylinder plug, or radially offset from the cylinder plug, is positioned within the housing to rotate with the cylinder plug as the key conformingly corresponding to the lock manually applies a rotational force to the cylinder plug rotates through the arc, while a member attached to the cam and eccentrically positioned relative to the keyway, drives the bolt between extended and retracted positions as the cylinder plug rotates through the arc. An electronic circuit containing a memory and a microprocessor, is mounted upon and supported by the cam to rotate with the cam through the arc. The electronic circuit operationally responds to digital data carried by the key that is in electronic conformance to data stored within the memory, by electrically energizing a release mechanism that is spaced-apart from the axis of rotation of the cylinder plug, to move between a deployed position preventing rotation of the cam relative to the housing, and a released position accommodating the rotation of the cam relative to the housing.

    • A sliding drawer received within a housing includes a front panel for covering an open end of the housing when the drawer is closed. A catch pin is urged to a normally extended position to engage an aperture in a tab on the back of the drawer in order to hold the drawer closed and locked. A key operated switch provides power from a battery power source to a push button switch which is operable to close a circuit and deliver electric power to a solenoid mounted within the housing. Activation of the solenoid causes the catch pin to momentarily retract and release the drawer from the locked position. Once released, a spring urges the drawer outwardly to an open position, thereby providing access to contents stored in the drawer. Subsequent movement of the drawer to the closed position compresses the spring and engages the catch pin with the tab on the back end of the drawer to hold the drawer in the locked position.

    • A mechanical lock and key includes an electronic access control feature for preventing opening of the lock unless prescribed conditions are met. The lock cylinder, preferably the cylinder plug, is fitted with a small ID or “serial number” chip which is read when a voltage is applied. A connected addressable switch is connected to a solenoid capable of withdrawing a blocking pin, when the switch is activated. The mechanical key has a key head with a battery, microprocessor and database. When the key is inserted into the lock, a one-wire bus connection sends the lock ID to the key's microprocessor, a comparison is made by the microprocessor to determine whether the lock is authorized to be opened, and if so; a code for the addressable switch, determined from the key database, is sent via the one wire bus to the switch, powering the solenoid, withdrawing the blocking pin and enabling opening of the lock. A record is made in the database as to each instance of opening of each lock which the key fits. In electric parking meters, for example, cash count data can be read by the key and recorded for auditing the route. Rewritable memory can be included in the lock to store the cash count data gathered by the key for subsequent audit or, in situations involving several keys and a simple lock, to store a series of previous entry events for audit.

    • In a door lock handle assembly of pull-out and side-swinging lever-action type, an operating handle is released from its retracted position without fail upon receipt of an unlocking signal issued from a site remote from the handle assembly, and is automatically locked again to the retracted position when pushed back into the retracted position. A solenoid (12) is fixedly mounted on a rear surface of a housing (2). A latch portion (7) is formed in a receiving lever plate (13) pivoted to the housing (2). The solenoid (12) has its plunger (14) pivoted to the lever plate (13) which is rotatably biased by a spring (15) in the direction in which the lever plate (13) is engaged with a stopper plate (8).
