    • A structure of a gland packing box is enhanced in the lubricating function and cooling function of the seal part, by forming at least one disclocating part for partly dislocating in the axial direction a gland packing of the gland packing box. The dislocating part is located on the fitting face of a gland packing holding member for fitting in the axial direction the gland packing externally mounted on a rotary shaft in the packing box. The dislocation causes part of the annular gap formed between the inside of the gland packing holding member and the outside of the rotary shaft to overlap with the internal surface of the gland packing in the circumferential direction, and forces a fluid to be sent into the inner surface of the overlapping gland packing along with rotation of the rotary shaft.

    • A toner replenishing device for replenishing toner to a toner storage area, from where the toner is supplied to a developing section, includes a holder for releasably holding a cartridge containing therein a quantity of toner, which may be located at a cartridge mounting and dismounting position and at a replenishing position, in which the cartridge is held substantially horizontally and driven to rotate thereby discharging the toner to a toner transporting path leading to the toner storage area. The cartridge is provided with a first mating member and the holder is provided with a second mating member corresponding in position to the first mating member. Thus, only the cartridge having the first mating member may be properly held by the holder for carrying out a toner replenishing operation.

    • A device for locating an object concealed behind a piercable member which is less dense than the object comprises a handle with a thin elongated needle mounted on the handle. The location of a denser object concealed behind the piercable member, such as a stud located behind drywall, is indicated by driving the needle through the drywall at selected points until a stud is struck. The locating device preferably includes a collar member surrounding and embracing the piercing end of the needle which provides lateral support for this part of the needle. The collar telescopes within a bore provided on the handle during penetration of the piercable member, with the collar being biased outboard relative to the bore to assure such lateral support at the point of needle penetration. A rigid sleeve surrounds a shank portion of the needle, with the collar member sliding along the outside of the sleeve during penetration. The sleeve lends further lateral support to the needle. The lateral support so provided enables the use of a very thin needle which readily penetrates the drywall and leaves only a tiny pin hole to repair, if necessary.
