    • A method of depositing a stable diamond film on a metal substrate includes pretreating a surface of the substrate and depositing a diamond film on the substrate by way of a multi-stage chemical vapor deposition, in which each subsequent stage is performed at progressively higher temperature. The deposited diamond may be doped with boron. The substrate may be titanium, a titanium alloy, iron, an iron alloy, or any other valve metal. The diamond deposition may be a high temperature chemical vapor deposition. The first deposition stage may optionally create a carbide of diamond and substrate, and an optional mixture of diamond and amorphous carbon may be deposited to bond this carbide layer to a subsequently applied layer. The resulting product may be used as an electrode, as a tooth or blade in a cutting tool, or may have many other uses.

    • A method and device are useful for enabling a trust relationship using an expired public key infrastructure (PKI) certificate. The method includes determining at a relying party a maximum permissible grace period during which the PKI certificate can be conditionally granted a valid status (step 905). Next, at the relying party an uncertainty interval is determined, during which the relying party is unable to detect a revocation of the PKI certificate (step 910). A certificate grace period is then determined at the relying party from a function of the maximum permissible grace period, the uncertainty interval and at least one attribute defined in the PKI certificate (step 915). Using the PKI certificate, a trust relationship is then enabled between the relying party and a certificate holder of the PKI certificate, after determining the grace period and before an expiration of the grace period (step 920).

    • An in-vehicle protection system includes a signal input interface and a vehicle protection circuit. The signal input interface is arranged to receive at least an indication signal indicative of a status of a vehicle. The vehicle protection circuit includes a first processing unit, a second processing unit, and a controller. Each of the first processing unit and the second processing unit is capable of performing vehicle protection upon the vehicle, where computing power of the first processing unit is different from computing power of the second processing unit. The controller is used for receiving the indication signal, outputting the received indication signal to the first processing unit for further processing when the in-vehicle protection system operates under a first operational state, and outputting the received indication signal to the second processing unit for further processing when the in-vehicle protection system operates under a second operational state.
