摘要： A method of navigating a medical device having a changeable magnetic moment within an operating region within a patient, the method includes applying a navigating magnetic field to the operating region with an external source magnet, and changing the direction of the magnetic moment in the medical device to change the orientation of the medical device in a selected direction within the operating region. The magnet moment of the medical device can be created by one or more electromagnet coils, in which case the magnetic moment can be changed by changing the current to the coil. Alternatively, the magnetic moment of the medical device can be created by one or more permanent magnets, in which case the magnetic moment can be changed by mechanically or magnetically manipulating the permanent magnet.

An aperture is then formed in the native vessel distal of the restriction. The second end of the graft is connected to the native vessel about the aperture therein such that the lumen in the graft communicates with the aorta and the native vessel.

摘要： Embolic compositions for treating vascular defects such as aneurysms include a mixture of a biocompatible polymer material, a biocompatible solvent, and preferably also an adhesive. The compositions preferably further comprise magnetic particles for controlling the delivery of the embolic agent. These magnetic particles preferably lose magnet strength over time, so that they do not interfere with subsequent magnetic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The compositions preferably also include radiopaque particles, which may be the magnetic particles, to facilitate imaging the embolic material.

摘要： A device for irradiating human vessel interior walls including a perfusion balloon catheter having a radioactive perfusion tube affixed therein. Preferably, the balloon is helical, having adjacent helical strand windings closely spaced in contact upon inflation to minimize trapped blood and reduce attenuation. The perfusion tube can be made radioactive by inclusion of a helical, radioactive metal coil in the perfusion tube wall. In use, the catheter can be advanced over a guide wire to a stenosis, inflated to dilate the site, with beta radiation from the coil passing through the device to the vessel walls, relatively unhindered by blood.

摘要： A catheter capable of irradiating blood vessel walls to inhibit restenosis after angioplasty. Catheters are capable of simultaneous irradiation, angioplasty, and in some devices, drug infusion. Preferred catheters include a helical perfusion balloon having strand windings spaced apart when inflated and defining a perfusion lumen within. A tubular sheath over the helical strands and distal shaft region is used in some embodiments and defines an outer wall for the perfusion lumen. A spiral, inter-strand space is defined between the sheath outer wall and the blood vessel inner wall, providing a confined volume for controlled delivery of drugs to the vessel wall in conjunction with irradiation. A device having a radiation wire, distally closed-end tube is provided. A device having a radiation wire open ended tube terminating proximally of the perfusion lumen is also provided.

摘要： A balloon dilatation catheter is disclosed which incorporates an elongate shaft which is at least partially optically transparent. The shaft includes an inflation lumen and a guide wire lumen extending therethrough in addition to an inflatable balloon connected to its distal end. The inflatable balloon may include a measuring index disposed thereon. The measuring index may comprise a plurality of longitudinally-spaced radial bands, a plurality of radially-spaced longitudinal bands, or a combination thereof. A method of using an angioscope in combination with a balloon catheter is also disclosed. The method involves inserting a balloon catheter with an optically transparent shaft section into a vascular lumen, inserting an angioscope into the balloon catheter, inflating the balloon on the balloon catheter, and measuring material characteristics of abnormal deposits therein. The material characteristics may be measured by the color of the abnormal deposit or the response of the abnormal deposit to inflation of the balloon.

摘要： A liquid cryogen dewar is constructed in which two or more liquid cryogen chambers are suspended within a case wherein the innermost cryogens have a higher boiling, or sublimation, temperature than the cryogen in the next outermost chamber. The chambers may contain liquid helium, liquid nitrogen and solid CO.sub.2 proceeding from the innermost to the outermost chamber. Superconducting electronic circuitry such as SQUID devices may be connected to the outer case of the liquid helium cryogen chamber. An isothermal shield is also suspended outside the helium chamber. The elements of the dewar are supported by glass epoxy rods and polyester cords of low thermal conductivity. A fill and exhaust port is provided which communicates with fill and exhaust tubes that are heat sunk to various locations of the rods and the Dacron cords.
