    • An apparatus includes a mold body with at least one cavity configured and dimensioned to receive water to be frozen into ice; a hollow sealed tube having an evaporator portion in thermal communication with the mold body and an offset condenser portion opposite the evaporator portion; a two-phase heat transfer fluid contained within the hollow sealed tube; and an actuation arrangement which causes the mold body and the tube to transition between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the water can be introduced into the at least one cavity and the offset condenser portion is above the evaporator portion. In the second position, the ice can be discharged from the at least one cavity and the offset condenser portion is below the evaporator portion. A refrigerator using the apparatus is also disclosed.

    • A method and system for performing garbage collection in a memory is disclosed. Aspects of the exemplary embodiment include dividing garbage collection into atomic operations, including read, write, and block erase; storing read cycle times, write cycle times, and block erase cycle times of the memory; receiving a communication from a processor indicating at least one idle period when an application executing on the processor will not make a request of the memory, wherein the communication indicates a time duration of the at least one idle period; and in response, performing at least one of the garbage collection atomic operations within the time duration, whereby garbage collection can be performed during the at least one idle period, rather than when the memory is substantially full.

    • Systems, methods and apparatuses are disclosed for protecting encoded media data. A minimum set of information needed to encode a single message for an encoded audio signal is loaded separately from the media data into an encoder. A media license file is generated to protect the encoded data, where the underlying information relevant to the media data may be hidden through encryption or other means in order to foster security. The algorithm(s) for encoding may be provided using a shared library, combined with an encoding payload that provides the minimum information set required to form the single message. A partial decoder may apply pattern matching information in the encoded payload in order to confirm that the encoding is actually present and is proper. Accordingly, the payload must be successfully decoded and verified before the underlying data may be decoded.
