    • The present invention relates to a novel anthrapyridone compound represented by the following formula (1) (wherein, R1 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group and the like, R2 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a phenyl group, a phenoxy group and the like, R3 represents a hydrogen atom, or a methoxy group, X represents an anilino group which may have a substituent such as a sulfonic acid group; a naphthylamino group which may be substituted by a sulfonic acid group; a mono- or di-alkylamino group which may have a substituent such as a sulfonic acid group; an aralkylamino group; a cycloalkylamino group; a phenoxy group which may have a substituent such as a sulfonic acid; a hydroxy group; an amino group; and the like, Y represents a chlorine atom; a hydroxy group; an amino group; and the like) in free acid form, an ink composition containing the same and a colored article using the same, and images recorded by an ink for inkjet recording containing said compound have high vividness and exhibit superior light fastness and ozone gas fastness.

    • An anthrapyridone compound of the following formula (I) and which is useful for coloring resins: ##STR1## wherein X.sup.1 is hydrogen, --NHCOR.sup.1, --CONR.sup.2 R.sup.3, --COR.sup.4, --SO.sub.2 R.sup.5 or --SO.sub.2 NR.sup.6 R.sup.7, in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.4 are each C.sub.1-4 alkyl, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are each hydrogen or C.sub.1-4 alkyl, R.sup.5 is C.sub.1-4 alkyl or hydroxyethyl, R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 are each hydrogen or C.sub.1-4 alkyl, X.sup.2 is hydrogen or imidomethyl of the formula (II): ##STR2## wherein n is a number of 1 to 2, X.sup.4 is hydrogen or carboxylic acid C.sub.1-4 alkyl-ester, X.sup.3 is hydrogen, halogen, hydroxyl, C.sub.1-4 alkyl or C.sub.1-4 alkoxyl, with the proviso that X.sup.1 is --NHCOR.sup.1, --CONR.sup.2 R.sup.3, --COR.sup.4, --SO.sub.2 R.sup.5 or --SO.sub.2 NR.sup.6 R.sup.7 when X.sup.2 is hydrogen, X.sup.2 is the imidomethyl of the formula (II) when X.sup.1 is the hydrogen, is provided, which is prepared by allowing the .alpha.-halonathraquinone compound with an acylated primary aromatic amine compound in a nonaqueous medium in the presence of metallic copper or a copper compound.

    • Polymeric orange colors are disclosed having a noncrosslinked organic polymer backbone to which is covalently bonded a plurality of chromophores having a particular anthrapyridine structure. The colors are represented structurally as ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently selected from among hydrogen, halos, lower alkyls, lower alkoxies, nitros, and sulfonates; R.sub.3 is selected from hydrogen, alkyls and alkylsulfonates; R.sub.5 is a lower alkyl or lower alkyl sulfonate and R.sub.4 is a noncrosslinked organic polymer linking a plurality (k) of said anthrapyridines into a polymeric colorant. The polymeric colorants are especially useful as nonabsorbable orange colorants for edibles.
