摘要： Coated optical glass fibers are described, wherein the coating composition comprises an unsaturated polyester containing at least one of (1) polyethylene glycol or polypropylene glycol having an average molecular weight of from 200 to 1,000 as a glycol component, (2) a long chain saturated aliphatic dibasic acid containing 12 or more carbon atoms as saturated polybasic acid component, and an acrylate or methacrylate, and (3) a long chain saturated aliphatic dibasic acid containing 6 or more carbon atoms as a saturated polybasic acid component and a long chain aliphatic dihydric alcohol containing 4 or more carbon atoms as a glycol component; and an acrylate or methacrylate.

摘要： A low viscosity unsaturated polyester resin for making glass fiber reinforced products is described, which comprises an alkyd prepared by esterification of maleic anhydride and/or acid and/or fumaric acid, optionally together with phthalic anhydride and/or acid, with one or more glycols, essentially comprising dipropylene glycol, and further comprises 27-34% by weight (of the total resin) of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer copolymerizable with the alkyd, essentially chosen among styrene and vinyl toluene, the alkyd having a molecular weight/double bond factor between 200 and 360 and an amount of free functional groups between 80 and 100 mg of KOH per g of alkyd inclusive. The products obtainable from said resin by conventional processing techniques are also described. The low viscosity of the resin results in better workability and better behavior of the resin during molding while the mechanical properties of the finished products are very good.

The buttons obtainable from said resin are also described. The disc blanks made from said resin have better workability and cause less wear of the tools than those of the prior art and the finished buttons have greater impact strength, and better lustre, greater color stability when exposed to sun light.

摘要： A crystalline unsaturated polyester, which is a scarcely tacky solid at room temperature but at a temperature somewhat above its softening temperature assumes a fluid state with a viscosity below about 500 poises, is used as a principal component of a binder for the preparation of a resin coated casting sand for use in shell mold casting of, particularly, aluminum alloys with an aim of facilitating the disintegration of molds and cores. The binder is mixed with a conventional foundry sand at an appropriately elevated temperature in the presence of an organic peroxide as a polymerization catalyst. The binder may preferably contain a cross-linking agent such as diallyl phthalate and optionally a silane as a coupling agent and/or a cross-linking accelerator.

摘要： Curable aliphatic polyester resin compositions formed from aliphatic unsaturated polycarboxylic acids and polyols and a crosslinking aliphatic vinyl monomer are disclosed. The degree of unsaturation in the polyesters is carefully controlled so that the resin can be cured to produce strong thermoset products. Resins of this nature can be filled with high levels of aluminum hydrate to give compositions that have high oxygen indices and very low smoke densities as measured by the National Bureau of Standards Smoke Chamber. Also, the resins are capable of room temperature curing.
