    • A decorative item comprising a transparent sheet of plastic material having front and back sides with the material to be reproduced being positioned on the back side of the sheet. A coating of paint covers the back side of the sheet and the reproduced material. A protective backing sheet is positioned adjacent the painted back side of the sheet. The reproduced material is visible from the front side of the sheet with the paint creating a background for the reproduced material. The item is produced by first making a master copy of the material which will appear on the item. A transparency is then made of the master copy so that the material to be reproduced is positioned on the back side of the transparency. The back side of the transparency is then painted so that a colored background is created for the reproduced material. An optional protective backing sheet may then be placed on the painted back side of the transparency after the paint has dried.

    • A method of making a cut glass panel comprising a plurality of glass piece arranged with cames in a predetermined pattern between adjacent edges of the glass pieces and having flanges on both sides of the glass pieces. The method comprises providing a mold having grooving in the upper face thereof in the pattern of the cames, introducing moldable material into the grooving, allowing the moldable material to set in the mold to form the flanges for one side of the glass pieces, and removing the flanges from the mold. The glass pieces are positioned on the same or a similar mold with the edges of each glass piece spaced from the edges of the adjacent glass pieces in the predetermined pattern and with the spaces between adjacent glass pieces above the grooving. Moldable material is introduced in the spaces to fill the grooving and the spaces. The previously formed flanges are positioned on the upper surface of the glass pieces so as to engage the moldable material at the top of the spaces. The moldable material is allowed to set so as to form the flanges on the other side of the glass pieces and the webs of the cames and to bond the flanges on one side of the glass pieces to the cames, and the completed panel is removed from the mold.

    • Decorative leaded panels of translucent or transparent thermoplastic material, such as windows, lampshades, or illuminated signs, are made by affixing metallic lead strips to the surface of a thermoplastic sheet by means of solderable securing means such as lead bolts, lead rivets or molten lead inserted through an aperture drilled through the lead strip and at least part way into the body of the thermoplastic sheet, and then soldering to complete the joint. The lead strip may delineate and surround portions of a decoration such as a painting applied to one surface of the thermoplastic sheet so that the finished article may have the appearance of a leaded stained glass window. An additional sheet of transparent or translucent thermoplastic may be applied to the decorated surface so as to protect the decoration.

    • Half of two symmetrical portions of an object to be displayed, is cut or embedded in one surface of a block of transparent material. The surface of the block in which the symmetrical half of the object is cut or embedded, is made reflective, so that a person viewing the block of transparent material sees the cut or embedded half together with reflections of that half to obtain a view of the composite halves of the symmetrical object. The arrangement is such that when the profile part of a human portrait is cut or embedded in the block, a viewer will see the entire head of the portrait, and not only the profile part. The reflections providing the image of the other symmetrical half of the portrait which is not cut or embedded in the block.

    • Method of making medallion-like articles for jewelry, decorative ornamentation and product identification, instrument panel light lenses and methods and apparatus for manufacturing same are disclosed. A medallion-like article for decoration or identification is formed by applying an uncured radiation curable polymer to an indicia bearing surface in a quantity sufficient to form a convex upper surface by means of its surface tension and then irradiating the polymer to effect its cure. Use of a flexible substrate, such as a vinyl or polyester film, upon which embossed indicia are formed, provides a flexible medallion which may be adhesively bonded to a contoured, non-planar surface. Upward curling of the medallion during cure is prevented by supporting the medallion on a water cooled platen during irradiation. A flexible, transparent lamp lense having a convex frontal surface is also formed by the ultraviolet cured photopolymer which is adhesively bonded adjacent to the lamp to form its lense.
