    • Methods of producing ligand arrays, e.g., polypeptide and nucleic acid arrays, as well as the arrays produced thereby, methods for use of the arrays and kits that include the same, are provided. In the subject methods, a substrate having a surface displaying carboxylic ester functional groups that produce surface bound hydroxyl functional groups upon hydrolysis is first provided. Next, the functional groups are hydrolyzed to hydroxyl functional groups. The resultant substrate, optionally after an additional functionalization step, is then contacted with ligands, e.g., via deposition of each different ligand onto a different region of the surface, resulting in covalent attachment of the contacted ligands to the surface.

    • A method for applying a coating to an optical surface of an optical device. In one embodiment, the method includes the steps of placing a coating solution in a cliche of a cliche plate, transferring the coating solution from the cliche to deformable body of a transfer pad, and pressing the transfer pad to the optical surface so as to transfer the coating solution from the deformable body of the transfer pad to the optical surface. The method further includes a step of irradiating the coating solution associated with the optical surface at a wavelength of microwave so as to form a coating layer on the optical surface. The coating layer can be further cured to form a desired coating on a proper optical surface. The optical device can be an optical lens having at least one optical surface, or a mold that can be used to produce an optical lens. In other words, the present invention allows a coating to be applied directly to an optical surface of an optical lens. Alternatively, a coating can be first applied to an optical surface of at least one mold and then be transferred to an optical surface of an optical lens during casting process.

    • A method for forming a kink resistant, blood impermeable graft comprises the steps of: providing a crimped substrate of polymer fabric; coating the outer surface of the substrate with a first solution comprising a first polymer and a particulate in a first solvent; allowing the first solution to dry, thereby forming a first coat on the substrate; coating the first coat with a second solution comprising a second polymer in a second solvent; and immersing the coated substrate in a third solvent to precipitate the second polymer from solution, thereby forming a porous second coat. The third solvent also dissolves the salt in the first coat to form pores in the first coat. The first and second polymer solutions do not penetrate to the interior surface of the substrate of the graft. Vascular prostheses made by this method are blood impermeable and kink resistant and are particularly useful as outflow cannulas for ventricular assist devices.
