    • A permanent magnet generator voltage regulation system controls the output voltage of a permanent magnet generator. The output voltage of the permanent magnet generator is controlled by configuring the electrical connection of the stator coils. A monitoring device monitors the output voltage generated by the PMG, and a controller selectively configures the stator coil configuration based on the monitored output voltage. A switch array having a number of switches is connected to the stator coils, the switches being controlled by the controller to configure the electrical connection of the stator coils. For instance, to maximize output voltage generated by the PMG, the controller causes the switch array to connect the stator coils in series with one another. To reduce the output voltage, the controller causes the switch array to connect at least some of the stator coils in parallel with one another. In this way, the output voltage of the permanent magnet generator can be coarsely controlled.

    • A motor controller is provided which can be reduced in the number of the wirings and power semiconductor devices required while maintaining the function equivalent to or higher than that of the motor controller adopting the existing winding changeover scheme, thereby realizing cost and size reduction and life increase. The motor is made in a structure having motor windings opened at both ends. The one end terminals of phase windings are respectively connected to the output terminals of a first inverter circuit while the other end terminals are respectively connected to the output terminals of a second inverter circuit. During power generation, any one of the inverter circuits is driven on all the phases by means of a same control pulse.

    • A method and apparatus for controlling an induction motor having at least high speed windings and reduced speed windings divides the reduced speed windings into first and second portions. The first and second portions of the reduced speed windings are electrically connected in series and a voltage is applied to the first and second portions of the reduced speed windings when it is desired to operate the induction motor at a reduced speed. The first and second portions of the reduced speed windings are electrically disconnected and a voltage is applied to the high speed windings when it is desired to operate the induction motor at a high speed. The induction motor has three sets of windings extending from a middle region, each set of windings having an inner winding toward the middle region and an outer winding away from the middle region. According to one aspect, a first changeover circuit is electrically connected to each set of windings, between the inner and outer windings for applying a voltage to the outer windings when it is desired to operate the induction motor at a high speed. A second changeover circuit is electrically connected to each set of windings, toward the middle region from the inner windings for applying a voltage to the inner and outer windings when it is desired to operate the induction motor at a reduced speed. It is thus possible to change from a Y configured winding connection to a .DELTA. configured winding connection.

    • A three-phase motor is wound with three spaced phase windings each having first and second multiple section windings. The second winding sections of each are connected in series. The first winding has one end of all three phases connected in common. The second winding has one end connected to the common intermediate connection of the first winding sections. The outer ends of the windings are connected to a two-speed switch having two different positions for alternate direct connection of the two windings to incoming phase lines. In one position, both sections are in circuit with the three oppposite ends of the one winding connected to each other to form a second common connection. In second position, the second windings is disconnected and the first winding sections are connected in series in a star circuit, with the current flow in the two sections of each winding reversed from the first speed connection. The switch includes five separate switches, three of which have a common pole connected to a phase line and an associated high speed contact and low speed contact connected to the windings and two of which have interconnected common poles and associated contacts to the terminal ends of the second winding.
