    • A surface light source equipment includes a light source and a light conductive plate having a light outgoing surface from which a light introduced from the light source outgoes. The light conductive plate is configured so tat the outgoing light is spread across substantially the entire surface of the light outgoing surface, and a plurality of patterns for reflection of a light conducted in the light conductive plate is formed on an opposite surface to the light outgoing surface of the light conductive plate. The respective patterns are structurcd such that, as viewed from a direction perpendicular to the light outgoing surface, a light is incident from a substantially fixed direction determined for every pattern. Each of the patterns has an inclined surface on a light incident side. The inclined surface substantially wholly shields both side surfaces of the pattern, as viewed from a direction of light incidence.

    • A disk apparatus includes (a) an actuator having a head supporting arm with a tab formed on the arm and a voice coil fixed to the arm, which arm is rotatable on a horizontal rotary shaft as well as on a vertical rotary shaft, (b) a voice coil motor having an upper yoke with a magnet fixed to the upper yoke and a lower yoke sandwiching and confronting the voice coil, and (c) a ramp section guiding and holding the tab at a refuge place. When the actuator at the refuge place starts loading with a starter command, a pulsed driving current is applied to the voice coil temporarily for urging the tab against a tab-holding plane of the ramp section, thereby making use of repulsion force generated on the actuator, so that the tab can leave the refuge place efficiently for carrying out the loading operation.

    • A mass spectrometer adopting a differential pumping system includes an ionization chamber with substantially atmospheric pressure, two intermediate vacuum chambers, and a mass analyzing chamber with a very low pressure (or a very high vacuum), where the pressures of these chambers are in the order of higher to lower. A hole is provided in every wall between two adjoining chambers for allowing ions to be mass analyzed to pass through. An auxiliary electrode with an aperture is placed near the hole, and an AC voltage is applied to the auxiliary electrode. Owing to an AC electric field generated by the AC voltage around the hole, an ion coming near the hole is exerted with such a force that confines the ion to the ion optical axis C. Under these circumstances, even when the ion collides with a residual gas molecule or atom and is deflected away from the ion optical axis, the confining force exerted by the electric field pulls the ion back toward the ion optical axis. This improves the ion passing efficiency of the hole, and increases the number of ions reaching the mass filter and ion detector, which consequently enhances the sensitivity of the mass analysis.
