    • One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a technique for adapting playback bit rate to available delivery bandwidth in a content delivery system comprising a content server and a content player. A content player periodically estimates whether a given playback bit rate can feasibly provide complete playback for a given title assuming currently available bandwidth. If playback becomes unfeasible at a current bit rate assuming currently available bandwidth, then the content player adapts the bit rate downward until a feasible bit rate is achieved. If playback is feasible using a higher bit rate, then the content player may adapt the bit rate upward.

    • The present invention discloses a method for data synchronization and the transmit (Tx) and receive (Rx) ends used. The data synchronization method applies to distributed systems that comprise a Tx end and at least one Rx end, wherein the Tx end (i) uses one or more bulk data channels to transmit bulk data and a real-time data channel to transmit real-time data, (ii) before a continuous bulk data transfer, sends a message through the real-time data channel to instruct the Rx end(s) to switch to the bulk data channel(s), and (iii) after a continuous bulk data transfer, sends a message through the bulk data channel(s) to instruct the Rx end(s) to switch to the real-time data channel. This invention can guarantee data synchronization for distributed systems with a simple implementation.

    • A method and a device for generating and reporting an Overload Indicator (OI) report. A controller jointly carries out conversion of a number system on a binary number used by an OI value in each Physical Resource Block (PRB) group indicated by a set grouping tag value. The controller converts a value generated by the conversion of the number system into a new binary number, and joints the new binary number in each PRB to generate the OI report. The controller carries out the above operations according to all the set grouping tag values, and compares the number of bits occupied by the OI report corresponding to each grouping tag value to select a PRB grouping mode corresponding to the OI report occupying the least number of bits as the OI format of the controller.
