    • A medical electrical lead employs a load bearing sleeve arrangement. A medical electrical lead includes an outer sleeve, having proximal and distal ends, and is formed of a first material. At least one electrical conductor is situated within the outer sleeve and extends between the proximal and distal ends of the outer sleeve. At least one electrode is electrically coupled to the electrical conductor. A load bearing sleeve extends between the proximal and distal ends of the outer sleeve. The load bearing sleeve is formed of a second material different from the first material. The load bearing sleeve offers resistance to axial loading forces applied to the lead. The load bearing sleeve can be coextensive with the outer sleeve or extend along at least the majority of the length of the outer sleeve.

    • A method and apparatus stimulating a vagus nerve of a patient. The apparatus includes a pulse generator having an adjustable pulse output parameter and adapted to be electrically coupled to the vagus nerve. The pulse generator generates pulses for a burst period that is followed by a rest period. The apparatus also includes a respiration sensor coupled to the pulse generator. The respiration sensor detects the inspiration and the expiration phases of the respiration. The pulse generator generates stimulation pulses during both the detected inspiration and expiration phases. The pulses are delivered with the output parameter adjusted to provide greater stimulation strength during the inspiration phase than during the expiration phase.

    • A system for selective activation of a nerve trunk using a transvascular reshaping lead is provided. One aspect of this disclosure relates to a system for spreading nerve bundles in a nerve trunk. The system includes a lead adapted to be chronically implanted in a blood vessel proximate a nerve trunk, and having an expandable portion adapted to be expanded to reshape the blood vessel to an elongated shape and to reshape the nerve trunk into an elongated shape to spread nerve bundles of the nerve trunk. The system also includes a plurality of electrodes and an implantable device coupled to the lead, where an electrical signal is delivered from the implanted medical device to one of the plurality of electrodes to transvascularly deliver neural stimulation from the electrode to at least one of the nerve bundles of the nerve trunk.
