    • Firearms having a locked breech are disclosed. An example firearm includes a barrel; a bolt head; a firing pin having a bulge; a bolt head carrier having a forward position and a rearward position; a central force receiving component receiving a rear end of the barrel and defining a plurality of recesses; and a locking bolt penetrating the bolt head. The locking bolt is movable between: (1) a locked position wherein the locking bolt engages in the recesses of the central force receiving component to thereby lock the bolt head to the central force receiving component and (2) an unlocked position wherein the bolt head is free to move with the bolt head carrier. The locking bolt is pressed by the bolt head carrier into the locked position when the bolt head carrier is in the distal position. The locking bolt defines an oblong hole which is penetrated by the firing pin. The oblong hole has a beveled edge which engages the bulge of the firing pin to push the firing pin rearward when the locking bolt moves from the locked position to the unlocked position. The barrel defines a gas intake opening. A gas cylinder is located in the central force receiving component. The gas cylinder is in communication with the gas intake opening. The bolt head carrier forms at least a portion of a gas piston which cooperates with the gas cylinder.

    • A firearm comprises a barrel having a bore and a receiver forming an ignition chamber. A bolt is slidable in the ignition chamber and includes a striker projection for igniting a primer of the projectile. A bolt advancing mechanism comprises an arm having a first end mounted on the bolt such that a second end of the arm is movable laterally relative to the fore-aft axis. A boss is carried at the second end of the arm. An actuator member is movable in the fore-aft direction relative to the bolt and boss, and includes a first cam surface inclined relative to the fore-aft axis for urging the boss forwardly and laterally. The boss is movable laterally along the first cam surface in response to the boss becoming aligned with a lateral groove in the receiver. Such lateral movement of the boss is in a direction tending to displace the bolt forwardly. The actuator member (i) pushes the boss and bolt forwardly to shift the projectile to a firing position, (ii) cams the boss into the groove to further displace the bolt forwardly and ignite the primer, and (iii) blocks movement of the boss from the groove until ignition occurs, whereupon a second cam surface displaces the boss outwardly.

    • The actuating part of the breech mechanism comprises at least one longitudinal housing open towards the front and laterally towards the inside and towards the outside of the weapon, in which is mounted on actuating slider free to be displaced towards the front with respect to said actuating part but in rearward abutment by thrust of a rear support surface against the bottom of said housing. The actuating slider comprises, forwardly, a front stop surface projecting forwardly at the periphery of the actuating part and occurring on the withdrawal path of the corresponding movable actuating unit and, at its side oriented towards the inside of the weapon, a protuberance projecting in the direction of the breech block through the inner lateral opening of the housing of the slider concerned. This protuberance comprises a rear engagement notch adapted to come into contact with a rear shoulder fast to the breech block and situated (assuming the slider in the extreme forward position) behind said engagement notch at a distance from the latter at least equal to the withdrawal stroke which the actuating part of the breech mechanism must traverse to free the bolt from the breech block.
