    • The present invention relates to a short recoil firearm (1) comprising a main body (2); a barrel (7) slidingly mounted on the main body (2) and movable between a forward percussion position and a backward recoil position; a slider (17) slidingly mounted on the main body (2) and movable between a forward position of closure of the barrel (7) and a backward stop position. The firearm (1) further comprises a plurality of cylindrical rollers (22) operatively connected to a spirally wound tape spring (26). The cylindrical rollers are movable between a first configuration, in which they lie mutually side by side between the slider (17) and the barrel (7), to prevent the relative movement thereof and to allow the integral displacement of same, and a second configuration, in which they lie in a recovery chamber (27). During passage from the first configuration towards the second configuration, the displacement of the barrel (7) opens an access (27a) for entrance of the cylindrical rollers (22) into the recovery chamber (27), causing disengagement between the barrel (7) and the slider (17). During passage from the second configuration towards the first configuration, the tape spring (26) brings the pushing elements (22) back to the first configuration through said access (27a).

    • A firearm apparatus includes a gun housing which includes a barrel support channel between a front gun housing portion and an intermediate gun housing portion. A reciprocating barrel is housed inside the gun housing and includes a piston-sleeve-contained barrel portion slidingly received in a piston sleeve which is housed in the front gun housing portion and in front of the barrel support channel. Proximal portions of a barrel piston head, the piston-sleeve-contained barrel portion, and the piston sleeve form a pressure space into which a portion of high pressure combustion gasses from a fired cartridge enter. The high pressure gasses propel the barrel forward until the barrel piston head reaches the end of the piston sleeve. Then, a recoil spring returns the barrel to its original position. As the barrel moves back and forth, a fresh cartridge is automatically loaded from a magazine into a barrel chamber portion, the cartridge is fired, and the spent cartridge is automatically discharged.

The present invention also includes a method for converting gas operated cartridge firing firearms (10) from fully automatic operation to semi-automatic operation comprising removing the bolt link, hammer and trigger assembly from the fully automatic firearm; providing a bolt (21) reciprocable within the receiver (12) of the firearm, engageable with the breach (32) of the barrel (11) and the face of a cartridge chambered therein and carrying a primary firing pin; providing a bolt lock (23) pivotally connected to the bolt for selectively locking the bolt within the receiver; providing a trigger assembly (26) having a trigger (16) and a hammer (28) selectively movable once in response to rearward movement of the trigger; and providing a secondary firing pin assembly (24) between the bolt lock and the slide, said assembly being interposed between the bolt and the hammer and providing a secondary firing pin (25) engageable with the hammer and the primary firing pin thereby to strike the primer of a cartridge chambered within the barrel in response to rearward movement of the trigger.

    • A firing pin block for a firearm of the type having a reciprocating bolt assembly including a breech bolt and slide block, a firing pin, and a pivotal locking block. The slide block and locking block have cam means which cooperate to pivot the locking block in and out of locking engagement with a recess in the barrel as the slide block is reciprocated to close and open the bolt. The operation of these cam means is coordinated with relative longitudinal displacements between the bolt and slide block so that, at any time the locking block is not completely locked, the slide block prevents sufficient forward movement of an abutment on the firing pin to cause the firearm to discharge. This firing pin block is effective even though the firing pin spring and retaining pin may be broken, distorted, or missing.

    • A breechblock for an automatic firing weapon wherein at the breechblock having a control element and a breechblock head which can be locked at the breechblock housing the locking elements are specially designed. At a front part of each locking element containing the pivot axis of such locking element there is provided a locking surface and at a rear shoulder or projection of each locking element there is provided a support surface beneath which there can engage the control element. Since the locking surface is disposed forwardly with respect to the end of the support surface the path of movement of the breechblock is shortened, and thus, the firing cadence or speed is increased. Furthermore, at the locking elements there are present more favorable force conditions.
