    • A broadband antenna system includes a ground plane, a metal plate parallel to the ground plane, and constituting a capacitance load against the ground plane, and a radiation structure connected perpendicularly to the ground plane and the metal plate. The radiation structure includes a feed conductor to supply an electric signal, a short-circuit stub to transfer the supplied electric signal to the ground plane, a conducting bridge to interconnect the feed conductor and the short-circuit stub, which is separated from the metal plate, and a radiating conductor connected to the ground plane the metal plate, and coupled to the supplied electric signal to thereby radiate electromagnetic waves.

    • The invention provides a multi-band antenna structure for use in a wireless communication system. The antenna structure includes integrated inductive elements and capacitive elements that function as a tuned circuit to allow the antenna structure to operate in multiple frequency ranges. In particular, the capacitive elements electromagnetically couple to the inductive elements. The capacitive elements provide the inductive elements with parallel capacitance at a given set of frequencies, thereby providing the antenna structure with frequency selectivity. At a particular frequency range, the inductive elements act as short circuits, thereby lengthening the radiating elements, which radiate energy at the particular frequency. At another frequency range, the inductive components act as open circuits, virtually shortening the radiating elements in order to radiate the higher frequencies. In this manner, the multi-band antenna structure operates within multiple frequency ranges.

    • A compact sized embedded, multiband, multi-standard, interoperable antenna for portable devices used in wireless applications is provided. The antenna design includes an asymmetrical structure provided on a double-sided printed circuit board. The asymmetrical structure covers both the ultra-wideband and the wireless local area network band. The asymmetrical structure provided on the front side of the printed circuit board is a primary radiator with a supplement strip radiator, whereby the bottom of the primary radiator is close to the vertical ground plane and fed by a probe extended from a coaxial line. The asymmetrical structure on the front side provides a well-matched bandwidth covering the ultra-wideband band of 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz. A second supplement strip is provided on the backside of the printed circuit board which provides the second resonance at the 2.4 GHz wireless local area network band.

    • A foldable portable radio terminal is disclosed which normally optimizes an antenna characteristic by an antenna matching circuit even if the body length of the foldable portable radio terminal varies. A folded state detection circuit sends a detection signal to a control section depending upon whether or not the foldable portable radio terminal is folded. An antenna matching circuit is determined so that the antenna characteristic of an antenna is optimized when the foldable portable radio terminal is in a folded state. When the foldable portable radio terminal is unfolded, the control section renders a matching characteristic changeover circuit operative to change over the matching characteristic of the antenna matching circuit so that, even when the foldable portable radio terminal is in an unfolded state, the antenna characteristic by the antenna matching circuit may be optimized.
