摘要： A system in accord with the present invention includes a first optical lens having a first outer surface, a second outer surface, and an outer perimeter, an electro-active refractive matrix; and a conductor coupled to the electro-active matrix. An alternative system in accord with the present invention includes a frame, the frame having a lens support and a temple region; an optical lens coupled to the lens support, the optical lens including an electro-active refractive matrix; a controller coupled to the electro-active refractive matrix; and a range finder coupled to the controller. The present invention also includes a method of assembling an optical lens system that comprises placing an electro-active refractive matrix into a cavity of a first optical lens; and covering at least a portion of the electro-active refractive matrix with a second optical lens.

The lens has a prescription based on a wave front analysis of the wearer's eye and the lens can further be modified to fit within an eyeglass frame.

摘要： A photochromic optical article comprising an optical substrate having a photochromic layer which is formed on at least one surface thereof and contains a photochromic compound is dispersed in a resin, and a thin metal oxide layer formed on the photochromic layer, wherein an indenonaphthopyran compound is used as the photochromic compound, the photochromic layer having a thickness of 30 to 50 μm, and the thin metal oxide layer has a thickness of 0.01 to 10 μm. The photochromic optical article has excellent photochromic properties, effectively suppresses a decrease in the photochromic properties caused by deterioration due to oxidation and features very excellent photochromic light resistance.

摘要： The present invention is directed toward specially tinted lenses for use in flying airplanes. In the present invention, the far field of vision is highly tinted to reduce the light from a sunlit sky, over sunlit cloud tops, or in clouds. This enables an aircraft pilot to easily see out of the cockpit into highly illuminated environments. The intermediate field of vision is essentially clear to enable the pilot to easily see a dimly illuminated instrument panel as compared to outside the aircraft. The near field of vision may have a range of tinting from clear to up to a medium tinted value for reading maps and other material. In addition, the change in tinting is discontinuous, that is, sharp, from one field of vision to another. The present invention works because the aircraft structure, that is, the nose and instrument panel, blocks outside light from coming into the intermediate field of vision where the lens is clear.

摘要： A flat or curved photochromic laminate structure and a plastic photochromic lens blank can be produced in a simple and efficient manner from relatively low-cost polymeric sheet materials. These laminates can be used to provide goggles, face shields, windows, window coverings, skylights, and optical lenses having efficient, uniform and high quality photochromic properties. The use of a polyesterurethane as the binder for the photochromic material has been found to improve the performance of the photochromic material. There may be a desire to have a protective exterior layer (e.g., an abrasion resistant layer) in combination with the lens system, but that may be provided in various methods. In the case of using the laminate in a goggle application, the laminate may be hard coated on one or both outer surfaces with an abrasion resistant coating, antireflective coating, and/or an anti-fog hard coating.

摘要： A functional wafer of the present invention is disclosed to solve manufacturing difficulties involved in the production of optical elements such as polycarbonate ophthalmic lenses. The functional wafer may include a front layer, a functional layer, and a back layer, whereas the front layer and the back layer are bonded to the functional layer with or without additional adhesive. Said functional layer is smaller than at least the front layer by about 0.5 mm to 5 mm along the perimeter edge. A functional wafer of this construction can be conveniently and effectively incorporated into a lens through an insert injection molding process, in which said back layer will be in contact with the lens material.
