摘要： An apparatus for heat treating contaminated particulate material and more particularly, an apparatus for reclaiming foundry sand. The apparatus includes a heated, inclined rotary drum and an auger projects into the upstream end of the drum and serves to feed material to the drum. The auger includes a spiral flight carried by a hollow shaft and a blower is connected to the outer end of the hollow shaft so that air is supplied through the shaft into the drum. A seal is provided between the non-rotating auger housing and the drum, and the seal includes an annular bearing plate mounted on the end of the drum while a sealing ring is connected to the auger housing and is biased against the plate to provide a seal. The excess air in the heated drum burns off the organic contaminates from the particulate material and calcines the mineral contaminates. The treated particulate material is transferred from the downstream end of the drum to a second cooling drum and air is passed through the second drum countercurrently to movement of the particulate material to cool the material.

摘要： An apparatus is provided for charging containerized fuel, particularly combustible hazardous waste homogenates, through a wall of a rotating kiln with minimal perturbation of mineral processing conditions. During kiln rotation fuel modules are loaded into the apparatus and charged into the kiln through a port in the kiln cylinder wall and onto the contained mineral bed. In a preferred embodiment the apparatus includes a device for actuating a port closure and a drop tube extending from the port into the kiln cylinder and positioned so that in-process mineral material does not contact the port closure during rotation of the kiln cylinder.

摘要： A system including a method and apparatus for treating waste containing organic contaminants which includes a direct fired, countercurrent, rotary kiln providing a soaking zone having an oxidizing atmosphere through which the materials being treated are passed after the unwanted organics are removed, and a secondary combustion chamber for oxidizing gases containing vaporized or pyrolyzed organics in which the organics are burned and are subjected to high temperatures for a holding time sufficient to effect destruction of the organic contaminants. The system includes means to minimize off-gas so as to make possible a reduction in size of the equipment employed.

The kiln includes a pair of concentric tubes affixed one inside the other and rotatable; a first large diameter tube and a second tube of smaller diameter, provided at one end with circumferential wall openings, mounted inside said first large diameter tube. An annular passageway between the two tubes, and opening through the second small diameter tube provides a continuous flow path for the introduction of waste and hot burning gases, the hot gases flowing cocurrently with the waste via the annular passageway, and circumferential openings into and through the second tube. A feed mechanism introduces waste into the annular passageway, elevator means lifts the burning waste from the annular passageway and passes same into the circumferential openings, and the burning waste is transported through the smaller tube and discharged.

A rotary combustion apparatus is employed which consists of a cylindrical drum, or other similar regularly shaped chamber, with a substantially horizontal axis of rotation including an ignition zone, a principal combustion zone, a falling temperature zone and a spent solids removal zone. The apparatus further includes solids transport chutes for forward and backward circulation of solids, arranged for the transfer of solids to or from one or more points. Feedstock may also be heated by recycled hot solids. The method and apparatus employs direct solids-to-gas contact established by lifting and cascading combustible solids through a hot gas stream.
