    • The invention relates to a boat or ship's hull, which is shielded against electronic radiation and comprises a cover (2) or the like for closing a hatch (3) in e.g. the deck (1) of the hull, and a sealing device for electric sealing of the closure of the cover at that part of the hull which surrounds the hatch. The hull and the cover comprise a composite (7, 9) containing fibers of an electrically conductive material, such as carbon fibers. The fibers reach the surfaces of the hull and the cover at the closure, where two sealing members (14, 15) included in the sealing device are fixed by lamination. The sealing members comprise flexible layered elements including fibers of the same kind of material as the fibers of the composite, for instance, textile bands of carbon fibers. The electric seal is kept closed by preferably non-laminated parts (20) of one of said sealing members being pressed against parts (21) of the second sealing member, e.g. by means of an elastic rib (18) which is kept compressed when the cover is closed.

    • Sandwich fiberglass laminate components and a process for fabricating same for boats and the like. The process employs a unique vacuum manifold (12) incorporated into the mold to an inner layer (3) of the component. Also, recesses in the mold are covered with pre-made inserts (22) molded into the layer to form hollow boxes (4, 5) for instruments, consoles and beams. The hollow boxes may be reinforced with metal inserts (20) for attaching support beams. Atmospheric feed holes (21) are drilled into the hollow boxes to prevent collapse of the boxes during the molding process and to yield a better mold. After the molding process the periphery of the component may be trimmed to form an integral edge (7) of the component. This process results in a sandwich fiberglass boat hull or other component having finished inner (3) and outer (2) layers with hollow boxes for instruments, consoles and support beams which are integral with at least one layer of the component and edges without layer separation.

    • A molded fiberglass-reinforced resin boat hull provided with in situ holes to accommodate through-hull fittings, such as a fitting adapted to receive a rudder post. The boat hull is molded on a female mold having locating holes drilled therein in registration with the holes to be formed in the hull. Anchored by a bolt locked in each locating hole is a plug of non-stick material which projects above the mold and has a configuration defining the hole to be formed in situ in the hull. Laid down on the female mold and surrounding the projecting plugs are the reinforcing fiberglass materials and flowable uncured resin for creating the hull. When the resin is cured, it is not bonded to the plugs and the plugs and their anchoring bolts are removed to expose the in situ holes. The finished hull is then withdrawn from the female mold.
