    • A method of forming a laminate composed of a solid polyester lamina bonded to a block. A block having a matrix composed of polyurethane foam and particles of expanded polystyrene distributed therein is prepared. A layer composed of a solution of a relatively unpolymerized polyester in styrene solvent with fiberglass embedded therein is placed in contact with a surface of the block. The styrene solution of polyester dissolves polystyrene particles adjacent such block surface, leaving recesses distributed in the block matrix. These recesses become at least partially filled with the polyester solution. The solution is then cured to produce a solid resin lamina which is joined with polymerized resin contained in the matrix recesses to secure the lamina to the block.

    • An in-line method of forming a laminate of a heat sensitive foam sheet material, and a hot extruded polymeric product comprising hot extruding a polymeric material into a shaped product and while still hot contacting the shaped product with a face of the heat sensitive foam sheet material and thereafter cooling the resulting product. Such face is previously coated with a layer of a heat sealing substance which is activated at a temperature below the softening point of the heat sensitive foam sheet. The heat seal contact takes place under minimal pressure when the surface temperature of the shaped product is still high enough to activate the heat sealing substance but not high enough to damage the heat sensitive sheet. The laminates so made are part of the invention.

    • A non-woven rug, or the like, is formed by heat sealing a covering material at spaced intervals to a plastic backing and thereafter shrinking the backing to bulk the facing fabric. The heat sealing of the facing fabric to the backing causes a partial loss of orientation in the seal area therein bringing about a bulking or crinkling of the backing. The backing is preferably of a thermoplastic material having a foaming agent incorporated therein which is foamed after the completion of the heat sealing and heat shrinking procedures. Also included in the disclosure are the features of the backing fabric independently, i.e., incorporation of a foaming agent into a plastic which is extruded and thereafter heat sealed and/or stretch oriented and shrunk prior to the activation of the foaming agent to foam the fabric.
