    • A document density detector apparatus to be used for an image forming apparatus in which a focal lens is disposed in an optical pass for guiding light reflected from the surface of a document, to the surface of a light receiving body, and a light sensor for detecting the density of the document is fixed outside of an area through which the light reflected from the surface of the document passes before illuminating a predetermined surface of the light receiving body, and in which an image of the document formed on the light receiving body may be enlarged or reduced at the desired magnification by moving the focal lens along the optical pass in the direction toward the document or toward the light receiving body. When an image forming mode is set at magnification which causes the focal lens to be moved to a position nearer to the document from the reference position, the focal lens is moved such that the density of a document is detected with the focal lens moved to the reference position, and when a mode for automatic detection of the density of a document is set before image forming, for an image forming apparatus capable of selecting the mode for automatic detection, or at any time for an image forming apparatus so arranged as to always execute automatic detection of the density of a document, before image forming.

    • An electrostatic copying apparatus and an auxiliary unit detachably mounted on the electrostatic copying apparatus to diversify the mode of image formation. The electrostatic copying apparatus includes a paper conveying passage, a paper feed means for feeding paper to the paper conveying passage and a paper feed passage having its downstream end connected to the paper conveying passage, and a copied image is formed on one surface of paper while it is conveyed through the paper conveying passage after being introduced into the conveying passage from the paper feed means or the paper feed passage. The auxiliary unit includes a paper moving passage whose upstream end is to be selectively connected to the downstream end of the paper conveying passage of the copying apparatus and a paper stock means whose upstream end is connected to the downstream end of the paper moving passage and whose downstream end is connected to the upstream end of the paper feed passage of the copying apparatus. The copying paper introduced into the paper conveying passage from the paper feed means in the electrostatic copying apparatus and conveyed through the paper conveying passage is selectively introduced into the paper moving passage of the auxiliary unit and then fed into the paper stock means of the auxiliary unit. Thereafter, the paper is introduced into the paper conveying passage of the copying apparatus from the paper stock means via the paper feed passage of the copying apparatus.

    • A joint material that is improved in arc-proof characteristic, fusion-proof characteristic, and consumption-proof characteristic. The joint material contains silver, lithium oxide and one selected from the group consisting of aluminium oxide, calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, and silicon oxide. Furthermore, one selected from the group consisting of iron, nickel and cobalt may be contained as an additional component in the joint material. Such joint material is produced by a method of oxidizing the silver alloy containing lithium and one selected from the group consisting of aluminium, calcium, magnesium, and silicon, with the composition ratio of 0.1-3 wt % for lithium, and 0.01-1 wt % for aluminium, calcium, magnesium, and silicon, respectively, in quantitive conversion to metal or by a method of oxidizing the silver alloy containing, in addition to the components mentioned above, one selected from the group consisting of iron, nickel, and cobalt, with the composition ratio of 0.05-1 wt %. In either of those methods, the oxidization mentioned above is performed through internal oxidation in order to disperse each of the foregoing oxides in silver.

    • In the case of a severe collision, the severity of the collision exceeds a first threshold value at which a pretensioner mechanism starts to activate, and then exceeds a second threshold value within a collision-discriminating time range T following the start of the activation; therefore, the force limiter mechanism unit is set at a high load. In the case of a gentle collision, the severity of the collision exceeds the first threshold value, at which the pretensioner mechanism starts to activate, but does not exceed the second threshold value within the collision-discriminating time range T following the start of the activation; therefore the force limiter mechanism unit is set at a low load. Therefore, without a determination delay, the switching of the force limiter mechanism can be appropriately selected.

    • A vehicle airbag device includes: an airbag which is housed in a folded state when a gas generation portion is not activated, and which inflates and deploys by receiving gas when the gas generation portion is activated, and whose two side portions are provided with gas outlet vent holes; and a tether that includes pair of left and right side portions extending along internal side surfaces of the two side portions of the airbag, and an intermediate portion interconnecting occupant-side end portions of the pair of left and right side portions. The airbag devices closes the vent holes by moving the pair of left and right side portions relative to the internal side surfaces of the two side portions of the airbag when the pressing force on the intermediate portion of the tether is greater than or equal to a predetermined value.
