    • A method and device for evaporating a predeterminable volume of fluid includes successive addition of partial volumes of the predeterminable volume to a supply line at different adding rates, at least partially evaporating the partial volumes forming vapor film between them and a supply line wall, conveying the partial volumes through the supply line to an evaporator surface, and applying the partial volumes to an evaporator surface region varying as a function of mass and/or volume adding rate of the partial volume, permitting effective evaporation of fluid, particularly urea/water solution. Utilization of the highest possible proportion of evaporator surfaces is achieved by mass and/or volume addition rate-dependent distribution of impingement surfaces on the evaporator surface. This heating strategy in the supply line region ensures the Leidenfrost effect when individual partial volumes are added. As even a distribution as possible is achieved using a corresponding geometrical configuration of the evaporator channel.

    • A honeycomb body includes separating walls defining channels for channelling a gas, and an adsorber material disposed on at least part of the separating walls. The inner cross-section and number of channels define a specific geometric surface area (GSA) of the honeycomb body, and they are at least partially separated from one another by separating walls. The material and thickness of the walls define a specific heat capacity with regard to the geometric unit area. The honeycomb body has an adsorption material provided especially for hydrocarbon adsorption. The specific GSA of the body is greater than or equal to 37.5 m K/J, preferably, ≧40, and, particularly, >60, the GSA being divided by the specific heat capacity (cp) with regard to the area, measured at room temperature without absorption material and eventual other coatings. The body can additionally have a catalytically active coating that, at least, is oxidative. The body is preferably constructed of sheet metal layers having a thickness of ≦40 &mgr;m with more than 450 cpsi, especially more than 540 cpsi. A hydrocarbon trap of such dimensions can be used for the purification of motor vehicle exhaust gases to reduce the emission of pollutants during the cold-start phase.

    • A casing tube is provided for a honeycomb element used for exhaust gas treatment. The casing tube is provided with a first area which is located close to a first front face and a third area which is located to close a second front face. The casing tube has a first inner diameter in the first and third area and is provided with a second area that is disposed between the first and the third area. The second area has a second inner diameter that is larger than the first inner diameter. The casing tube is characterized in that the axial length of the first area is less than 5 mm, preferably less than 3 mm. The relatively narrow first area enables the honeycomb to be permanently fixed and ensures that only a small amount of heat is transmitted to the casing tube. As a result, a significant improvement is achieved in the cold start performance of a catalytic converter.
