    • A choke valve is controlled finely suited to the running state of an engine. A throttle valve 8 and a choke valve 9 are provided in series on an intake pipe 6, and the opening degree of the choke valve 9 is controlled by a stepping motor. The choke valve opening degree upon start of engine (start opening degree) is determined depending on the engine temperature. The stepping motor 11 is initialized at the fully closed side of the choke valve 9 when the power source for starting the engine is turned on. The start opening degree of the choke valve is judged to be closer to the fully closed side or fully opened side, and the stepping motor 11 is initialized at the fully closed side if judged to be close to the fully closed side, and at the fully opened side if at the fully opened side.

    • A dense substrate for a solid oxide fuel cell, comprising: a base portion, support portions and fixing portions all of which project from the base portion so as to be arranged sequentially in one direction; grooves formed between the support portions and the fixing portions or between the support portions; and mount portions which are provided on the support portions between the fixing portions for mounting and affixing at least cell sections thereon. A solid oxide fuel cell is easily manufactured at a reduced cost by arranging a plurality of cell sections and, if required, plate sections, on the mount portions of the above dense substrate; affixing the cell sections and, when used, plate sections, onto the mount portions with an insulating bonding agent; and joining adjacent cell sections together with interconnections.

    • A system and method for electronically controlling a vehicular engine operation in accordance with an accelerator operation which can utilize a system for automatically controlling a vehicle speed to a set cruising speed are disclosed in which an operating variable selection mechanism which selects and outputs one of operating variables whose value is larger than the other operating variable, the operating variables being derived from an accelerator and from an actuator of the automatic vehicle cruise controlling system is installed. The selected operating variable of the operating variable selection mechanism is detected by means of an accelerator sensor. A throttle actuator is controlled for driving the throttle valve toward the direction in which an opening angle of the throttle valve coincides with a target opening angle which is defined by a detected variable of the accelerator sensor. A limiter provided for limiting a maximum opening angle of the throttle valve is driven by means of a limiter driving mechanism toward the angular position of the throttle valve corresponding to the selected operating variable of the operating variable selection mechanism and is held thereat against the driving force of the throttle actuator by means of a limiter holding mechanism.
