    • An exhaust gas purifier equipped with a catalyst converter including an early-activation catalyst converter and a pre-catalyst converter for purifying harmful exhaust gas discharged form an engine evaluates a characteristic of the exhaust gas purification rate of the catalyst converter from the cooled condition to the warmed condition of a catalyst to diagnose a deterioration of the early-activation function of the catalytic converter. The purifier compares a rising part of the evaluated characteristic of the exhaust gas purification rate with a rising part of a reference characteristic and judges that the early-activation catalyst converter is deteriorated if a difference between these rising parts is beyond a predetermined value, and compares a steady state part of the evaluated characteristic of the exhaust gas purification rate with a steady state part of the reference characteristic and judges that the pre-catalyst converter is deteriorated if a difference between these steady state parts is beyond a predetermined value.

    • An internal combustion engine control device having exhaust gas sensors provided before and after a catalyst or after the catalyst, a processor for signals from the exhaust gas sensors, and an electronic controller. The electronic control is arranged for controlling the amount of fuel to be fed to the internal combustion engine, ignition timing, the amount of secondary air for reducing the emission, the amount of EGR (exhaust gas recirculation), electrically heated catalyst, assisted air flow, and gas flow in the cylinders or intake exhaust valve timing of internal combustion engine. Using the controller the conversion rate (degree of activation) is detected with high precision from the processed sensor signals, and the emission is most suitably controlled to be reduce according to the degree of activation in order to meet both present stringent exhaust gas regulations and those which are predicted for the future.

    • When a vehicle is suddenly stopped by turning off an ignition key switch on a way of a slope road, a braking force maintaining control is not preformed, and it often occurs that the vehicle moves down along the slope road. To prevent such occurrence, an electro-mechanical braking device for maintaining the braking force is provided so that the vehicle is parked securely. The electro-mechanical braking device includes a parking brake mechanism for maintaining the brake force even when an ignition key switch (power supply switch) of the vehicle is turned off. When the power supply switch (ignition key switch) of the vehicle is turned off with a braking pedal being stroked or a braking operation signal being present, the parking-brake mechanism is activated (the brake force is maintained).
