    • A hip ridge connection in a building structure in which two hip rafters are connected to a ridge member by a sheet metal hip ridge connector having a base which is in registration with the end face of the ridge member and has flanges fastened to the side faces of the ridge member, and two seat members holding the two hip members in selectable sloping relation to the ridge member. The same sheet metal hip ridge connector may also be used to connect two hip rafters to a wall or the face of two common rafters. Modified forms of the sheet metal hip ridge connector may be used to connect 2x or 4x dimensional lumber hip rafters to 2x or 4x dimensional ridge members. One sheet metal hip ridge connector is slope adjustable in the field up to a 12/12 pitch for the hip rafters.

    • A slope and skew hanger for connecting a rafter to a beam at a variety of slope and skew angles. The hanger includes a connection portion and an integrally attached seat portion which is connected with the connection portion along a bend line. The connection portion includes a central opening, a pair of side connecting brackets joined by connecting strips and adapted for connection to the beam, and a pair of centrally positioned connection flanges extending outwardly from the front face of the connection portion and adapted for connection with the sides of the rafter. A further feature of the present invention is the provision of a raised spherical portion and an offset nail receiving opening to facilitate the angled nailing of such a hanger or bracket to the beam or rafter.

    • A support structure for forming eave corners on a hipped roof of a steel framed structure comprises a rectangular frame having two triangular sub frames tiltable along their adjacent diagonal sides. The inner corner of the rectangular sub frame is supported above the outer diagonal corner to form triangular planes coplanar with adjacent roof planes on each side of a hip line, the rectangular frame being cantilevered over the corner walls of the building to form an eave corner. The support structure may also be used to form internal or external corners on a verandah roof. A method for constructing hipped roofs on steel frame buildings is also provided.

    • A cover and erection method for a tank, sedimentation device or building cover constructed over or within a generally continuous upstanding circular side wall (30), made up of a series of concentric spaced thrust rings (11, 12, 21) having multiple short curved radial beams (14, 19) bridging the annuli between the rings and cover plates (17, 21) extending across the spaces between adjacent ones of the beams between each of the spaced rings. Erection may be from the wall inwardly or from the center to the wall. In either event an intermediate thrust ring is temporarily supported at an elevation above and within the side wall and the beams set across the rings in relatively short radial spans prior to welding of beams and plates to the respective rings. By this technique, small lightweight beams can be utilized for building large-diameter covers or domes with each rise span being of relatively small length. Each rise may be designed in terms of beam and plate size independently of the beam and plate size used in the previous rise. In one embodiment where the radius of curvature of any rise differs from that of other rises providing for unusual geometric requirements or providing for less stress on the cover plates.
