摘要： A sheet processing apparatus includes a sheet holding unit, a sheet conveying unit configured to convey a plurality of sheets one by one onto the sheet holding unit during sheet processing, wherein the plurality of sheets including a first sheet and a second sheet that is conveyed immediately after the first sheet and is a last of the plurality of sheets that is conveyed, an adhesive applying unit configured to apply an adhesive material, and a control unit configured to control the adhesive material applying unit to apply the adhesive material on the first sheet held on the sheet holding unit before the second sheet is conveyed onto the first sheet and cause the adhesive material applying unit to not apply the adhesive material on the second sheet after the second sheet is conveyed onto the first sheet.

The glue spreading roller (104) of the glue cartridge is designed so that the form of the glue spreading roller (104) prevents glue from escaping from the glue tank (101) when the glue spreading roller (104) is in place and takes glue from the glue tank (101) when the glue spreading roller (104) is rotated. A block (1360) of sheets to be bound to form a book is set in a bookbinding device (1300), and glue is spread on the spine (1362) of the block (1360) in such a way that glue is obtainable from an exchangeable glue cartridge (130) by using a receiving unit (150) for the glue cartridge (130).

Furnished with: inner-leaf tray; coversheet tray; gripping conveyor gripping and transporting bundles of leaf-tray sheets; coversheet conveyor feeding coversheet-tray covers and placing them in a binding location; adhesive applicator applying adhesive to bundle spine-portion endfaces; cover binder binding bundles and covers together; and controller encasing bundles in covers to form booklets. A first detector, in the inner-leaf tray, detects thickness of bundles therein, and a second detector, in the gripping conveyor, detects thickness of the gripped bundles. The controller prohibits the gripping conveyor from conveying inner leaves out from the inner-leaf tray when the thickness of a sheet bundle detected by the first detector is more than a predetermined thickness.
