The individual plastic-foam slats, held together and attached to each other, are packaged in a watertight polyethylene bag, and are positioned against an existng concrete wall, ready to receive the second concrete pour. The zip-out filler will form the expansion joint between the two concrete pours. Removal of the filler is easily accomplished because of the inter-connected slats.

    • Fluid concrete is provided to apparatus which shapes the concrete into a desired form and may stack the finished products for removal by an operator. A concrete receiving portion of the apparatus holds the fluid concrete and discharges selected amounts thereof into a vertically open mold. The mold and the fluid concrete therein are supported during filling by a forming table. A compaction member is inserted into the mold to distribute and compact the fluid concrete therein, after which the mold may be removed from the table and held for vertical movememt by a mold carrier. Withdrawable support plates at the bottom of the mold support the shaped product therein after the mold has been removed from the forming table, with these support plates being selectively withdrawn to allow release of the shaped product from the bottom of the mold. A shaped product stacker is provided beneath the mold in position to receive shaped products released therefrom, and to stack a plurality of such products. A mode is provided wherein the concrete products may be shaped and stacked automatically.

    • A method for forming cored concrete slab utilizing an elongated fixed mold for forming the opposite sides and bottom surface of the slab. A concrete depositing and core forming assembly moves longitudinally over the mold, the assembly including a plurality of elongated core forming mandrels and a hopper which deposits a first layer of concrete in the mold generally to the top of the mandrels. A length of metal mesh is provided having its free end attached at one end of the mold, the mesh being coiled on a reel mounted on the assembly which lays the mesh over the mandrels and the first layer, applying tension thereto, as the assembly moves toward the other end of the mold. Another hopper is mounted on the assembly which deposits a second layer of concrete over the first layer and mesh. The concrete has a slump of from 1 to 2 inches and the mesh is chosen so as to act as a concrete supporting material so as to allow removal of the mandrels at a rate faster than the concrete becomes self supporting whereby the mesh prevents collapsing of the cores. The mandrels may be rotated as they are withdrawn from the concrete and the method may also be utilized to form prestressed cored slabs.

    • This disclosure relates to an apparatus for fabricating a pipe joint sealing device, this device including a concrete structure, such as a manhole, having an opening in the wall thereof provided with a rubber lining or gasket. It is the purpose of this invention to provide the concrete structure with the sealing ring or gasket permanently locked therein in fluid-tight engagement. The apparatus includes an annular support preferably fabricated of glass fiber reinforced plastic, this support resembling the wheel and rim of an ordinary automobile wheel which is adapted to mount the usual rubber tire. This support is radially divided into two annular or disc-like sections, one of the sections having an annular support or boss adapted to receive thereover in coaxial relation a rubber-sealing ring. The two support sections are detachably secured together so as to retain the sealing ring in position, and the support is further designed with radially outwardly extending sides which define a generally U-shaped cross-section or channel. This channel shape is of such size that the sealing ring seats on the base thereof with the sides extending angularly outwardly therefrom. In the use of this apparatus, the support or form with the sealing ring thereon is supported in position in a concrete mold set up for casting a concrete structure, such as a manhole. Liquid concrete is introduced into the mold in the usual manner in encircling relation to the form and rubber ring and caused to harden. The form sections are eventually removed leaving the sealing ring securely cast and locked into the perimeter of the opening formed by both the sealing ring and the support form.
