    • A method and apparatus for casting concrete elements with varying, determined length, equipped with one or with a plurality of longitudinal hollow cores, by means of a slipforming apparatus. The apparatus is movable with respect to the bed (2), said apparatus comprising forming members (10) for forming hollow cores. The mass is fed in the first step to the portion of the slab below the hollow cores, and in the second step the hollow-core forming members being brought onto the said portion of the slab and mass is being fed between the forming members and onto them. The forming member (10) for forming a hollow core comprises an attachable extension part (22). The height of a hollow core is changed by changing the extension part of the hollow core forming member.

    • A body (5) of set, initially pasty material, such as concrete, includes an electrically conducting path formed by a concentrated layer (6) of electrically conducting magnetizable elements, such as fibres (F) or granules (G), embedded in the initially pasty material and extending through at least a portion of the body (5). Electrically conducting terminal members (9) may be connected to the electrically conducting layer (6) at spaced-apart positions along the layer (6). A method of providing such a body (5) includes the steps of: (a) forming a body of the pasty material in which electrically conducting magnetizable elements (F) are dispersed, (b) applying a magnetic field to the body of pasty material to form from the magnetizable elements an electrically conducting layer embedded in the body of pasty material and extending at least through a portion the body (5), and (c) causing the body of pasty material containing the layer (6) to set. Before or after the setting of the body (5) of pasty material, electrically conducting terminal members (9), may be connected to the electrically conducting layer (6) at spaced-apart positions along the layer.

    • An extrusion machine for making hollow elongated articles of concrete has an eccentric compaction disc that reciprocates and rotates to compact and release air from zero slump concrete. The machine avoids having to have a high frequency converter which is both expensive and noisy. At least one extruder screw is provided in the machine to feed concrete and form the elongated article. The screw has a die former at the outlet end to form a cavity in the elongated article. An eccentric compaction disc is positioned between the outlet end of the extruder screw and an input end of the die former, the input end of the die former is eccentric and coplanar with an eccentric disc face mounted for movement in a circular orbital path about the extruder screw axis. The output end of the die former is concentric with the extruder screw axis.

    • Auxiliary or stub augers are used in conjunction with a convention auger machine that is used to form reinforced hollow cored slabs. They can be used to ensure consolidation of concrete above the cores particularly and relatively in large diameter slabs or can be substituted for one or more of the conventional core forming augers if a core or bore is not required in the slab at that location. The stub auger consists of a first portion having a non tapering shaft and a non tapering flight thereon. The second or downstream portion has a gradually reducing diameter shaft with the flight which continues from the flight around the first portion, decreasing in diameter to substantially zero at the extreme downstream end of the shaft.
