    • A manhole construction for assuring tightly sealing a manhole/sewer pipe connection. The heart of the invention resides in a molded elastomeric circular gasket for resiliently supporting a sewer pipe in a manhole opening and sealing the space between the wall of the opening and the surface of the pipe. The transverse cross-section of the gasket has a generally triangular head, with a forward face provided with an arcuate depressing therein, and a sloping rear face; a generally rectangular body, integral with the generally triangular head and generally "L" shaped leg depending from the body and coextensive with the rear face of the body, the leg of the "L" being directed towards the forward face.

    • Method and apparatus for forming inverts in the manhole base of a manhole assembly using a single pour technique. In the single pour technique, the invert is formed simultaneously with the formation of the manhole base through the use of apparatus including a mold member having a channel-shaped projection for defining the invert. Means are provided for simply, and yet precisely, aligning the mold member having the channel-shaped projection with the members forming the openings in the base member sidewalls by forming a base member whose invert is in precise alignment with associated sidewall openings. The apparatus utilized incorporates at least one adjustably positionable channel-forming assembly for forming an invert for communicating between associated sidewall openings each having a central axis whose intersecting central axes define an angle different from 180.degree.. Alignment members on the channel-forming members employed in the two pour technique cooperate with a joining bar and clamping means to assure precise horizontal alignment between the channel-shaped projections utilized to form the invert.

    • A method of effecting a joint between a pipe and underground manhole walls or the like utilizes an adapter ring secured and sealed in an aperture of the manhole wall and having an internal diameter accommodating the particular diameter pipe to be sealed with a gasket surrounding the pipe and urged by a gland ring having fasteners cooperating with the adapter ring into fluid pressure sealed relation between the internal diameter of the adapter ring and a radially opposed peripheral surface of the pipe. The construction is such that a workman effecting the pipe joint may work within the safety of the manhole. The adapter rings and manholes have common matching bevelled surfaces and the adapter rings have various internal diameters such that a given manhole may be adapted to various size pipes by selecting the adapter ring having an internal diameter accommodating the particular pipe selected, thereby reducing manhole inventory.

    • A method for installing a gasket having a first exposed pipe-engaging portion and a second portion which is anchored within a peripheral wall of an opening in a poured-in-place concrete wall. The method includes the first step of erecting a form including an inner wall and an outer wall to define the poured-in-place concrete wall, the outer wall of the form having an opening in the region where the opening in the poured-in-place concrete wall is to be. The second step includes providing an assembly of an inner mold disc having a central particularly defined shape, the gasket, having a particularly defined shape and disposed in a particularly defined orientation, and an outer mold disc having a particularly defined shape. The third step includes suspending the assembly at a desired predetermined location between the inner and outer walls by a depending fixing bar, having a particularly defined shape; the suspending being by a particularly defined bolt structure. A further step includes in-filling the space between the inner and outer walls of the form with settable concrete material, so as to anchor the gasket in the settable concrete material. The final step includes after setting of the settable concrete material, removing the form and the inner and outer mold discs, so as to leave the first, exposed pipe-engaging portion of the gasket which is not embedded in the set concrete material projecting into the opening intended to receive the pipe.

    • This disclosure relates to an apparatus for fabricating a pipe joint sealing device, this device including a concrete structure, such as a manhole, having an opening in the wall thereof provided with a rubber lining or gasket. It is the purpose of this invention to provide the concrete structure with the sealing ring or gasket permanently locked therein in fluid-tight engagement. The apparatus includes an annular support preferably fabricated of glass fiber reinforced plastic, this support resembling the wheel and rim of an ordinary automobile wheel which is adapted to mount the usual rubber tire. This support is radially divided into two annular or disc-like sections, one of the sections having an annular support or boss adapted to receive thereover in coaxial relation a rubber-sealing ring. The two support sections are detachably secured together so as to retain the sealing ring in position, and the support is further designed with radially outwardly extending sides which define a generally U-shaped cross-section or channel. This channel shape is of such size that the sealing ring seats on the base thereof with the sides extending angularly outwardly therefrom. In the use of this apparatus, the support or form with the sealing ring thereon is supported in position in a concrete mold set up for casting a concrete structure, such as a manhole. Liquid concrete is introduced into the mold in the usual manner in encircling relation to the form and rubber ring and caused to harden. The form sections are eventually removed leaving the sealing ring securely cast and locked into the perimeter of the opening formed by both the sealing ring and the support form.
