    • An anal incontinence treatment apparatus and method include or use an operable restriction device implanted in a patient and engaging the colon or rectum to form a restricted passageway. An energy transmission device for wireless transmission of energy of a first form from outside the patient's body is provided. An implanted energy transfer device transfers the energy of the first form transmitted by the energy transmission device into energy of a second form, which is used to control the operation of the restriction device to vary the size of the restricted passageway. The energy transfer device includes at least one element having a positive region and a negative region, the element being capable of creating an energy field between the positive and negative regions when exposed to the first form energy transmitted by the energy transmission device, so that the energy field provides the second form energy.

    • An intraluminal grafting system having a balloon catheter assembly, a capsule catheter assembly and capsule jacket assembly is used for deploying in the vessel of an animal body a bifurcated graft having a plurality of attachment systems. The deployment catheters contain an ipsilateral capsule assembly, a contralateral capsule assembly and a distal capsule assembly, wherein the attachment systems of the bifurcated graft are disposed within the three capsule assemblies. A removable sheath of the capsule jacket assembly covers the bifurcated graft and capsule assemblies to provide a smooth transition along the length of the deployment catheters. The bifurcated graft is comprised of a main tubular member and two tubular legs, having attachment systems with wall engaging members secured to the superior end of the main tubular member and the inferior ends of the tubular legs. An inflatable membrane configured on the balloon catheter is used to firmly implant the attachment systems within the vessel. The bifurcated graft and attachment systems are configured to remain in the vessel after the deployment catheters are withdrawn. The method of use of the present intraluminal grafting system is also disclosed, for example, for deploying a bifurcated graft proximate the abdominal aortic bifurcation.

    • A prosthesis for treating a body passage includes a micro-porous tubular element and a support element. The tubular element is formed from a thin-walled sheet having a wall thickness of 25 micrometers or less, preferably a coiled-sheet exhibiting temperature-activated shape memory properties. The mesh pattern includes a plurality of openings in the sheet having a maximum dimension of not more than about 200 micrometers, thereby acting as a filter trapping embolic material while facilitating endothelial growth therethrough. The support element includes a plurality of struts, preferably having a thickness of 100-150 micrometers. The support element is preferably an independent component from the tubular element. Alternatively, the support element may be attached to or integrally formed as part of the tubular element. The tubular and support elements are placed on a catheter in contracted conditions and advanced endoluminally to a treatment location within a body passage. The tubular element is deployed, and the support element is expanded to an enlarged condition at the treatment location to engage an interior surface of the tubular element, thereby securing the tubular element and holding the lumen of the treatment location open.
