    • A focusing screen device for use in a photographic camera or other suitable optical instrument includes a light refracting structure having a number of sets of light refracting surfaces. Each set of surfaces provides a different light refracting direction than that of the other sets. A light control assembly including an electro-optical element controls the passage of light through each surface of each set. The focusing condition of the optical system of the camera then is perceived by observing whether or not an object image changes its position, as a whole or in part, after light from the object passes through the device. For example, the position of the image may change continuously or periodically as a split line scans the image. Accordingly, the observer is able to recognize the focusing condition of the optical system with extreme clarity.

    • A wide angle objective lens with an angular field coverage of 76.degree. and a relative aperture of 1:2.8, comprising seven members of which the first and second (counting from the front) are negative meniscuses of forward convexity, the third is positive with the front surface more strongly curved than the rear one and convex toward the front, the fourth is bi-convex, the fifth is bi-concave, and the sixth and seventh are positive meniscuses of rearward convexity. This lens is shortened in the longitudinal direction and the diameter of the first member is smaller. By the shortening of the dimensions of the lens, it is increasing in the halo due to the sagittal rays. In order to diminish the increased halo it is restricted optimumly the reduced air space between the second and fourth members which affects the incident height of the marginal ray on the fourth member.

    • An optical scanning apparatus in which the luminous flux emitted from a light source is deflected by a deflecting device and formed by an optical device into a spot-shaped image on a plane to be scanned. The optical device has first and second toric lenses. The first toric lens has both lens surfaces formed into aspherical shapes in the main scanning cross section and has a meniscus shape in which a concave surface faces the deflecting device in the vicinity of the center of scanning and which provides a positive refractive power. The second toric lens has both lens surfaces formed into aspherical shapes in the main scanning cross section and has a meniscus shape in which a convex surface faces the deflecting device in the vicinity of the center of scanning and which provides a positive refractive power. Sections of the toric lenses perpendicular to a generating line in a sub-scanning cross section both have meniscus shapes which provide concave surfaces facing the deflecting device and which provide a positive refractive power.
