    • The method of controlling travel speed of a vehicle includes controlling vehicle travel speed according to a set vehicle speed given by a driver of the controlled vehicle in a speed control mode; detecting at least one object present in front of the controlled vehicle and measuring distance to and relative speed of the at least one object when present in front of the controlled vehicle; determining whether or not a preceding vehicle is among the at least one object present in front of the controlled vehicle; controlling the vehicle travel speed according to a set distance to the preceding vehicle in a distance control mode when the preceding vehicle is present in front of the controlled vehicle; establishing whether or not a stationary object is among the at least one object present in front of the controlled vehicle; when a stationary object is found to be present, calculating a predicted travel path of the controlled vehicle and determining if the stationary object is located in the predicted travel path; when the stationary object is in the predicted travel path, calculating a relevance value (REL) of the stationary object as an obstacle for the controlled vehicle and limiting vehicle acceleration of the controlled vehicle according to the relevance value (REL) of the stationary object as an obstacle. An apparatus for performing the method is described. The apparatus includes a radar detector and a connected microcomputer.

    • The apparatus for determining rotational position of a rotatable element without contacting it includes a sensor device having two Hall or AMR sensor elements for sensing a magnetic field of magnetic field strength (B) generated by or influenced by the rotational position of the rotatable element and for producing output signals according to the magnetic field and thus the rotational position of the rotatable element. Using different embodiments of an electronic evaluation circuit, the direction components of the magnetic field are evaluated to determine the rotational position by comparing the input current to one of the sensors and the sum of the output signals of the respective sensor elements. Either sinusoidal or rectangular alternating voltages or direct voltages are input to the sensor elements.

    • A lane change assist information visualization system allows a vehicle driver to change lanes with minimum effort and stress by displaying a lane change option that suits the particular lane changing situation in an intuitively understandable manner, and information on the surrounding vehicles adequate for the vehicle driver to make a reasonable decision in changing lanes. The system includes a lane change program computing device (9) that computes at least (a) a lane change possibility, (b) a time period that has to elapse before a lane change is allowed if a lane change possibility does not currently exists, or a time period in which a lane change should be made if a lane change possibility currently exists, and (c) a need for acceleration or deceleration, and a display unit (10) for displaying this information.
