    • An automatic washer having an improved sump formed in a bottom wall of the wash tube. The sump acts a collection zone for wash liquid and is spaced a sufficient distance from the wash basket and has sufficient capacity such that it can collect sufficient amount of wash liquid therein to present a constant supply of wash liquid to the pump while preventing the collected wash liquid from coming in contact with the basket while in the collection zone. The sump has a rear wall which forms a chord of the tube and a front wall which is flush with the circumferential wall of the tube. The sump also has a sloping bottom wall which communicates at a lowest portion thereof with the suction inlet of the pump, which the sump overlies.

    • A method for manufacturing a vacuum insulation panel is provided which includes the steps of: drying a quantity of microporous powder; evacuating the powder of gases; evacuating a gas impermeable bag of gases; loading the powder into the gas impermeable bag while the bag and powder remain in an evacuated condition; and sealing the gas evacuated bag with the gas evacuated powder therein to form a vacuum insulation panel. The powder in the bag should be compacted before the bag is sealed and also a trace amount of helium may be injected into the bag prior to sealing to assist in leak detection of the sealed panel. The panel with injected helium has an internal pressure not exceeding 1 mm Hg.

    • A refrigeration appliance having at least two refrigeration compartments, each compartment having its own access door, is provided wherein there is a first evaporator for the first compartment the first evaporator operating at a first pressure level and a second evaporator for the second compartment, the second evaporator operating at a pressure level higher than the first pressure level. There is a control device for directing refrigerant to a selected one of the evaporators from a condenser and for preventing a flow of refrigerant into the first evaporator when refrigerant is being directed into the second evaporator to cool the second compartment. Around the first compartment is placed insulation having a higher thermal resistance than that placed around the second compartment since the first compartment is kept at a lower temperature that the second compartment. A phase change material may be used in association with one or both of the evaporators.
