    • A head-protecting airbag adapted to be mounted on an upper periphery of a window of a vehicle for deployment downward to cover the window includes a primary inflatable portion that includes a protection portion for receiving an occupant's head and a secondary inflatable portion that admits inflation gas of the primary inflatable portion and is inflatable secondarily for preventing a pressure increase of the primary inflatable portion. The primary inflatable portion and the secondary inflatable portion are communicated with a tubular conduit. The protection portion includes an inlet-side inflatable portion located proximate an inlet port of the conduit and a lower inflatable portion located below the conduit. The lower inflatable portion is communicated with part of the inlet-side inflatable portion and has an opening dimension in a vertical direction that is greater than that of the conduit over an entire area below the conduit.

    • The head-protecting airbag apparatus includes an airbag folded up in an elongative contour for covering a window of vehicle upon deployment, and a plurality of cases arranged along the length direction of the folded-up airbag for housing the airbag. The airbag apparatus is mounted on the vehicle by attaching mounting portions of the airbag along an upper periphery of the window together with the cases. The cases are connected by a bendable connecting member and thereby permitting the airbag stored in the cases to be transported in a bent state at the connecting member. The connecting member announces the occurrence of twisting of the airbag between the cases by shortening the distance between the cases for preventing the airbag from being mounted on the vehicle in a twisted state when the airbag apparatus is unfolded for mounting on the vehicle.

    • A single crystal of a nitride having a length of not less than 10 mm, a width of not less than 10 mm and a thickness of not less than 300 .mu.m, or having a length of not less than 20 mm and a diameter of not less than 10 .mu.m. In the production of the single crystal, either a mixed powder composed of a nitride powder and an oxide powder or an amorphous nitride powder is provided as a source material powder, the source material powder is heated in a nitrogen atmosphere or in a nitrogen atmosphere containing hydrogen and/or carbon at a temperature below the sublimation temperature or melting temperature of the nitride to decompose and vaporize the nitride powder, and the decomposed and vaporized component is subjected to crystal growth from the vapor phase on a substrate. The nitride single crystal is useful as a bulk material for heat sinks, electric and electronic components, such as semiconductors, optical components, and components of electric equipment and office automation equipment.
