    • A turbocharged internal-combustion engine (10), with at least one high-pressure stage (20), with at least one low-pressure stage (30), which is arranged downstream of the high-pressure stage, with bypass piping (24a, 24b) having pipe switch(es) (70, 71), and which connect the exhaust side (12) of the engine with the inlet side of the low-pressure turbine (31) with sensors for detection of the operating parameters of the engine. The high-pressure turbine (21) is continuously flowed through by at least a minimum exhaust mass flow so that it continually circulates, a central processing unit (CPU) is provided, into which signals of the sensors are fed, the CPU actuates the pipe switch (70, 71) in such a way that variable partial flows of the entire exhaust mass flow are distributed to the high-pressure turbine (21), to the low-pressure turbine (31) and optionally to the fresh air side of the engine, and namely in order to optimize the mode of operation of the engine with a view to achieving minimum fuel consumption and/or minimum pollutant emission.

    • A turbocharger for an internal combustion engine, particularly suitable for use in a work machine, is provided with a turbine having a low pressure region of minimum static pressure. A compressor has a high pressure region of maximum dynamic pressure. A conduit fluidly interconnects the high pressure region with the low pressure region. A valve is associated with the conduit for opening and closing the conduit. Compressed air or a fuel/air mixture may be bled from the compressor to the turbine over a wider arrange of operating conditions, even at low load operating conditions.

    • An exhaust gas regenerator/particulate capture system is provided with a first particulate trap and a second particulate trap. A regenerator valve is provided having a valve member, an EGR inlet port, and a purge air outlet port. The valve member is operable between a first position and a second position. When the valve member is in the first position, the EGR inlet port is connected in fluid communication with the first particulate trap and the purge air outlet port is connected in fluid communication with the second particulate trap. When the valve member is in the second position, the EGR inlet port is connected in fluid communication with the second particulate trap and the purge air outlet port is connected in fluid communication with the first particulate trap.
